I’d love to see real life MPGs on the turbo 4 … I fear we may all be quite disappointed.

meanwhile the new zr2 has a major power advantage over the taco

I have a feeling we will be disappointed to. I think both engines will definitely be punchier and more fun to drive but I feel like efficiency will be a let down, not to mention the added headache down the road for how much additional maintenance a high-mileage turbo requires.

Its no secret that Toyota's real goal is lowering emissions and not just improving MPG

This new truck needs a manual. I wish they would still be made in San Antonio.

    Dreams are free. :D

I hope some will be made in Texas, too.

You will get an owner's manual...no way Toyota develops a truck manual transmission at this stage in the game (unfortunately).

Is the 3.5L that's in the new Gen 3 Tundra basically the same engine that's in the Gen 3 Taco (with the addition of the twin turbo)? Or, is it an all new engine?

Sad but true! Our beloved 3.5L powerhouse is really only 3.456L:eek:
Sounds like false advertising to me:rofl:

The Tacoma if you round up is a 3.5. The Tundra is a is actually a 3.44 and should round down to 3.4 and is IMO a fake 3.5l. I’m not impressed with the Tundra.

When did Toyota do away with having two engine options in the Taco? For years, you could get either an I4 or a V6.

Not sure I understand your question, the 2023 Tacoma still has the 2.7 I4 and 3.5 V6 as an option. For the Gen 4, the speculative thought is an I4 Turbo or a Hybrid with an I4, so still two powertrain options.

Think it will be the 2.4 L turbo Lexus or the 2.4 L turbo hybrid Lexus.. Be cool if they kept the 2.7 and used that for the platform

If there is no manual trans atleast. Not interested. No imagination. Automatic only or hybrid is incredibly boring to me. Toyota and the big 3 should have told the EPA/CARB, etc. to go kick rocks. They are not made in San Antonio anymore and their price still keep going up. No thanks.

We need a plug-in hybrid "TRD Prime" :D

On the topic of the 2.4T and hybrids, anyone know why Toyota went with a 6spd tranny in the Crown instead of something like an 8 speed?

Have you heard if there will be a 6 cylinder option? I remember carmaker1 saying that was a possibility.

Maybe because experiencing 4 gear changes before reaching the other side of the intersection isn't considered "luxury"?

EDIT: I just looked at the Crown on the 'Yota website. I know in Japan, it's an executive-level car. It looks like it's a for-the-masses sedan in the US?

Gotcha, my guess is the hybrid version will be available on the trd pro trim and possibly limited, similar to the tundra.

    Thanks for keeping us updated!
