    They are super interesting for sure. The modular frame platform is an amazing idea but had to make some compromises. That compromise was mostly additional weight and some sizing quirks.

    it’s kinda wild to think that you *could* run a double crown fork on a 120mm rear travel bike (trail pistol) since it’s all the same front triangle. Not that you should but you could.

    Being manufactured locally was also a big selling point.

    if I could summarize GG revv’d frames, I’d say they are the Tacoma of bikes. Super configurable, reliable and practical. Some quirks but probably what most people should buy.

    I bought the frame only since I had (or so I thought) everything that would straight swap over. Ended up needing a new fork because of the increased head tube/headset length.

    Definitely check out the Guerilla Gravity MTBr forum, it’s pretty active and shows a lot of the options/configurations beyond what GG advertises. Also sign up for their newsletter cause lately stuff has been going on sale. They have some completes in their outlet for -20% right now.

    So last week here in south jersey the temps were in the high 60s low 70s. My local skatepark was packed.. it was pretty awesome to have a bunch of bmx riders all flowing through the park.

    This week were getting down in the 30s.. I went riding tonight.. I'll go riding tomorrow.. it was empty...

    I'm 45 years old and still enjoying being able to do whatever is in my comfort zone. I'm not learning backflips or flairs at this point in my life, but I am still "progressing" .... meaning I enjoy trying to make the simple stuff look effortless. Stuff like 1 footed tables, x-ups, 360s, tire grabs, etc..... the basics you learned when you were 15... I just keep tweaking that stuff......

    Anyway.... pretty soon it'll be too windy and/or cold to ride consistently. I have a skinny 3ft quarter in my basement that is really only good for practicing wall rides.

    What are y'all doing to stay riding during the colder months? I'm trying to get some ideas here so I can stay behind bars. I just recently tweaked out my tire grabs and I'm getting 270s over the 4ft hip at my local park... I'm looking to stay consistent as the cold weather moves in..

    After many weeks of backorder sadness I was able to track down a front tire to complete this set. Pumped full of hype from the likes of Bernard Kerr and Rachel Atherton I was real eager to get a ride on these before full on winter to feel them out. Ultimately my plan was to ride these though winter rather than my usual which is the Maxxis DHRII f/r.

    Why the change? Well.. I've been riding Maxxis for a real long time with great success, while paying for it dearly.. With tires pushing $110 each I've definitely paid my dues to them at this point. I typically can only expect two months of riding out of a rear 3C Maxx Terra. On those I'll do two rears to a Maxx Grip front. To cope I've been tossing on a dual compound in the summer for a few extra miles at the sacrifice of grip. I'm not a skidder we've just got a lot of damn rocks up here and tires get chewed. The Contis came in at $67 bux a pop. Still expensive but we'll see how that pans out.

    The setup I've got here is the Kryptotals in Enduro Case Soft compound 29x2.4 front and rear specific. I went for the Enduro softs since the Trail casing only comes in their Endurance compound and I had no idea how those would fare in the wet. I'll normally run dual Maxx Grips in the winter anyway. PNW winters and Maxx Terra is a not an acceptable combo.

    Out of the box these tires feel beefy, similar case thickness to a double down maybe a bit stiffer. The Apex insert near the bead quite firm. This gave me a little more confidence since I will be running these without my beloved cush XC inserts. This mostly for weight weenie purposes. The Enduro casings aren't light at 1125g each. All in they added 80 grams over the Exo/cush xc combo I was running before.

    Mounting these up was fun. I actually had to bust out a tire lever, something I haven't done in quite a while. I can mount a Maxxis DH with a cush pro by hand all day but I had to fight to get these suckers on. With the tight fit it was no surprise that they aired up easily with a floor pump. Aired up they appear to be a bit on the smaller side for a 2.4 on my 30mm internal rims. This is ok for me as I've never been a fan of huge volume tires anyway..

    Da ride:

    I took them for a spin at my local trails. This park has a good mix of terrain, everything from bare rock to loamy mulch. Right now everything is mostly covered with leaves and plant debris so traction is down a bit. I started with the tires aired to 23psi front and 27psi rear. This is a few PSI higher than I would normally run but I figured it would be a safe starting point for my departure from the cush lyfe.

    At first glance you would think these things are gonna be slow but rolling around I was pleasantly surprised that they weren't super draggy feeling. If anything they might be slightly faster than dual DHRII. I played around on the loose gravel over hard pack road that leads into the park doing cornering drills to warm up. Transitioning from side to side felt seamless. There was no squirm channel or surprise loss of grip areas that I could feel. Once on the side knobs I felt locked in and that I had more grip available to push in to. The first trail I rode has a nice mix of flat corners, sharp corners with small berms, and off camber sweepers that you can really lean into and drift around. I immediately felt comfortable pushing though the different corners. It was easy to tell when I was on the edge from feedback alone. At the limit the tires broke away predictably with a bit of a chattery clawing sensation. Testing the limits on one of the off cambers I did manage to ride off the side of the front but was prepared and saved it with a dab.

    I climbed up a few different trails some all bare rock, some mulchy, and my favorite $2 hill which a steep and punchy slick climb out of a creek. The rear was hooked up everywhere and I didn't spin it out at all. Both tires also had excellent braking traction.

    Dropping into some more chunky trails I could really feel those Enduro casings. The tires felt firm and damped. I full sent them over some rock/root areas where you can easily clack a wheel and made it though no drama. The casings weren't really deflecting much at all so I definitely foresee myself dropping a few PSI to get a bit more compliance for normal trail riding. I would probably use this PSI for pure DH, or park riding however.

    I finished the ride feeling pretty good about the tires. The grip is there and the price is good.(better) Only time will tell about the durability. I have run Continentals before and found them to wear very well so I'm hoping the same goes for these. The rain will be back soon but I'm feeling like these stay on for that. Expect the slop pics to be rolling in soon.

    Pros:
    Lots of grip.
    Cheaper than Maxxis.

    Cons:
    Bitch to mount.
    Heavy-ish.
    No soft compound option with trail casing.

    Exactly my experience with the rear as well. It's been lasting about as long as the DHR2, so longevity seems on par. No knobs tearing, just normal braking wear on the faces of the square knobs. I actually ended up running mine a couple PSI higher (rear) than I usually do with the DD casings to get a similar feel. Still roll a bit more than the DD in high G-outs, but that stiff AF apex has been super reliable. I'm quite surprised what they've been able to withstand.

    I just changed things up and started running the Rimpact Pro inserts. Krypto Enduro soft rear, Assegai EXO+ grip front. Weight should be on par with the DD casings I normally ride. With the inserts I dropped down 3 PSI from my usual pressures. It's a different sensation, for sure! A TON more grip, a TON more protection, different in high G's for sure (a little roll, then bites HARD). I think once I'm used to it, it'll be better than what I had before. Only reason I went away from CushCores was that I slashed a sidewall once, and the ride out was such a PIA I swore them off. Their weight alone also meant I had to run EXO, which are super vulnerable to the sharp-as-shit rocks I ride. Also meant weird transition from soft casing to stiff insert. With the weigh of the Rimpacts, I can run the thicker casings. Weights should be around 1300 per tire/insert.

    I haven't run the new continentals yet but I remember I had some on a bike a few years back, I think it was the mountain king and trail king with that black chili compound, they were super grippy but also a pain in the ass to mount. I've had similar experience with maxxis where I can just mount them with a floor pump but those old contis sucked to mount.

    I though about trying these tires but I feel like they are too aggressive for my riding. I ride a DHF front Rekon rear and the DHF might be a little on the aggressive side, I just like having big side knobs cause the dry summer months leave us with a ton of soft over hard pack and other tires have left me wanting more haha.

    Anybody ever use customwheelbuilder.com?

    I'm looking at using them for a set of Onyx Vesper hubs laced to Stans Arch wheels for a XC bike I'm building up.

    So far they have been very prompt at answering questions in emails, but curious about quality of work and timeliness after order.

    They seem to be a little cheaper than prowheelbuilder.com but those two seem to be the only ones offering the hub color with the rainbow Pillar spokes that I want.
