    Probably accurate.

But drilling through brick is a bitch - most bricks are very hard.

Mortar will hold the box without issue.

If needed, you could drill holes in the box, and run the mounting screws there. That way, you can get the box where you want it, independent of the factory mounting holes.

The shelving in my garage that is against the brick were all Tapcon screwed into the brick. I had no issues drilling into it, but I had my old DeWalt 18v hammer drill to do all the work. Now, if you have a regular drill and a masonry bit, yea good luck

Shim between the joist beam and the joist ? The joist is the outer joist, it is 100% visible so I really don't want to see a shim that screams " I made a stupid mistake" if possible. I have thought about shimming then using some type of trim around the top of the joists. ( skirting of sorts) to hide the sin but also look like a trim detail. The deck boards were always going to be exposed, not a 'picture frame' type of construction. I have never had to shim anything like this, musky handrailing posts to bring them into plumb, using cedar shims. Any recommendations on a type of shim? Thanks so much for taking time from your schedule to offer advice.

Could you not just switch the board with the one behind it in your original post then shim it? That way your "mistake" will be more hidden then you can use the plastic shim and none the wiser. Granted, this would only work if the length of the joists are the same. That's just my 2 cents.

yes , I was suggesting shimming the joist to raise its top edge , so shimming would be between beam and underside of joist

alternatively you could rip a shim of appropriate thickness from pressure treated material and use PL Premium subfloor adhesive and some stainless pins or screws to add if to top of joist if you are concerned about seeing the shim the other way

Are you butting the joist into the rim joist? If so, can you pop out the fasteners and raise that joist on that end to where you need it to be?

So yeah , this happened today , lol

Literally 5 minutes after we finished our footings for a small shop we are getting inspected tomorrow , a dead 100' tall alder tree from the neighbour's yard came down on a dead calm day , direct hit on our formwork and some tools

Yes, the ends of the regular joists will be butted and face screwed (5" SDWS screws) into the rim joist. I need to get a better pic posted of the location. OZ-T had the idea of ripping a piece of shim stock from PT scrap, which is something that I also thought about.

As long as you have the meat there, you can probably get away with jacking that end up. Unless you put a plastic shim in your joist hanger.

You are correct in your response "Mortar will hold the box without issue" with a few exceptions. 1. If your brick mortar is OLD and brittle and flakey or, 2. your brick mortar is newer but lousy to begin with. Either of these conditions will cause problems when trying to get something to hold on to the brick mortar itself. Remember all mortar IS NOT created equal, or ages equally. I live in a home that was built in 1935, and there are some places in my brick where I cannot trust the mortar to hold ANYTHING, while most places I can trust it to be strong.

    That's called silent but deadly.

When I fought fire you'd hear the burned out trees come crashing down, and sometimes nothing but a "thwump" when they hit the ground. To this day if I'm hiking in a burned area I keep an eagle eye on the burned trees. This one is worse though, nobody expects a tree to fall in calm weather. Glad no one was hurt.

Has anybody built their own shed recently? Wondering about potential costs for a 10'x10' or 10'x12' or 10' x 15' shed if i built it myself for a home gym or to move stuff out of the garage.

I just got a quote for 16x12 from a guy who wanted $12k.

Seems like the recession we hear about has not yet arrived.
