Additionally, I have to throw in the radiator/fan and check firewall clearance to make sure everything clears when deciding to tack the perches in place.

I would suggest keeping the stock tacoma rack. Even if the dimensions are slightly different you will adding some form of bumpsteer

    Great work so far!!

I discovered that some of these early models had frame failures at the engine mounts and it is pretty obvious why. The metal is only single wall 12ga (.109") thick at that area. I suspect part of it is due to the design of the V6 engine mount which puts all the force of the engine on about a 2x2 inch sqaure. To be safe I decided to reinforce the frame rail with 1/8 plate. Also, this sets the angle of the engine mount pretty close to how it was in the lexus. The V8 engine perch is much better designed and made out of 1/8 plate. I couldn't completely cover the whole area with 1/8 plate because of the design on the V8 perch.

Looks like the same engine mounts as the GX470 or V8 4Runer

Power steering rack is on also

My goal this weekend is have the engine bay body harness and the dash board harnesses off the lexus.

After that I will start cutting off brackets that hold various ecus like this clearance sonar ECU and welding them on the Tacoma dash bar in the same positions relative to the lexus.

I plan on using the parking sonar, it displays on the center screen of the gauge cluster. I have all the sensors and wiring so might as well use it. It'll be the only second gen with parking sonar

Turn the driver side steering rack mount bolt upside down. You’ll be happy you did when it has to come out for service

Actually this advice is with the V6 AC compressor in mind. You won’t have the V6, so might not apply, or might also apply to passenger side. Not sure how the accessories are laid out on the 4.6L. Obviously, from a safety perspective having the bolt go in from the top is better

I am pretty sure if the both bolts are on top here it would be an engine out job lol.

Has lockers a skewp and a bit of droop
Just need to push them up enough to cut off the heads. Then get new bolts to replace. Not that bad but can be avoided if you flip them.

Or just cut them…. Anyway, I’m not sure what size tires you plan on but those OEM rubber rack bushings allow too much deflection for anything larger/heavier than stock.

For the guage cluster surround your gonna need a plastic welder. Id by some spare ABS and Frankenstein the taco cluster and lexus one together lol.

Just got the lexus engine bay body harness completely removed, lots of unplugging. I am labeling plugs with masking tape/sharpie as I unplug them to reference when I go to plug everything back in. I am waiting for the dealer to send me a new firewall insulator before I proceed to wire stuff up on the wall. I also need it prior to brake booster installation. I am hoping to have the interior dash harness taken off this weekend. Theres a lot going on in there.

Also, I found these zip ties that are compatible with the firewall threaded studs to hang the wiring harness. They are relatively inexpensive at 85 cents each.Screenshot_20221112_214608_Drive.jpg

Awesome job as I stated before. Really proud and jelly of you.

but am I right in believing that it will be awd now? All wheel drive all the time?

I would want to slide that thing around with the v8
