I'm in the process of replacing my rear wheel bearings and axle seals.

Passenger's side went smooth following Timmy's video.

The driver's side is a different story. When I attempted to install the bearing into the hub there was much more resistance about half way in than it should have been. To the point where it would have taken more force on the press to get it in rather than it sliding in nicely as it should. I also could not get the outside dust seal pushed in for the life of me.

Sooo.....I measured the both the width of the hub opening the bearing sits in as well as the outside opening the dust cap slides in. Turns out the outside opening is not round.

I can tell that someone was there and did work on these previously. There was no dustcap when I disassembled which makes me think they couldn't get one in and decided to go without it. One of the hub bolts seems to be shorter (which was not the case on the other axle) and 2 of the lugs on the axle look newer than the rest, so it definitely looks like there was a prior issue.

Any ideas what would lead to the the outer opening being out of round?

I suppose you can just get new bearing cups, as those separate from the backing plate.

Vicious move to just cut the brake line like that!

Any idea why the hub bolt might be shorter? They were all the same length on the passengers side?

I'm thinking that's probably not the correct bolt and that I should replace it while replacing the hub.

It's been a minute since I've done the rear bearings- but aren't one or more of those bearing cup studs pressed out to get a bearing splitter on there? The previous work probably broke or damaged the stud. I wouldn't over think it. Just order some new ones and replace them.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Failed bearing that got hot enough to warp things.

Way to much heat applied trying to press a bearing out or both of these things.

The real question will the axle install correct if the bearing is not seated correct ??

Me after so many years of this type of thing I would just swap in a used axle housing .

Swapped out the bearing case today with one from the dealer and everything went back together as it should.

Also replaced the stud....it took a while to figure out the part number for it because it was the serrated stud the ebrake mechanism attaches too. Parts guy had no idea where to find it when I was talking to him on the phone. Had to end up figuring it out myself.

Now gotta fill the diff and re-install the brakes to finally wrap up the rear axle maintenance so I can get this thing on the road.

Good work! Most people probably would have just slammed that bearing back in there and moved on, only to have it bite them in the ass later.
