I really don’t understand what’s the obsession with RC? Cab is tiny.

Folks like the look or something?

Its cheaper right? Save some dollars not buying something you don't need I think. Don't need a back seat don't pay for one.

Sure. I guess it works for a limited amount of people that don’t need to transport more than 1 passenger.

To me, RC is absolutely useless. Can’t even take trips.

Great points. Everyone complains about the engines but they aren’t sports cars and people know that. I never get the criticism. Take it easy, drive and enjoy.

Great post. Everyone doesn’t need a big V8, and the 2.7 does what most people need if they are being honest. A lot of farm trucks have 4 bangers and they actually work their vehicles. It’s a great, reliable engine.

The looks and how small they are. I think a access cab is the sweet spot but I love a old single cab Toyota truck.

Small as in for off-road or just general driving?

IMHO any taco is already easy enough to drive around town.

I don’t know what trips you guys took but when I go on trips/camping my interior and box are packed. And no I don’t bring extra stuff. DC Tacoma’s are already pretty cramped.

I mean cmon, if you have dogs/kids/buddies there is absolutely no way RC will work.

I could see it being a beast off-road in most situations. For large rocks though, longer wheelbase is preferred.

I know we are different but aesthetically RC does not look good to me. IMO AC cab is the best looking.

Access cabs are awesome and it’s the sweet spot.

No money, all went to truck...
I have not heard any hype either way. It's a solid engine, a choice over the other.

I had an access cab before the taco but unfortunately I needed DC this time. Man miss that truck so much, wish I could’ve kept it.

I don’t blame you. If I coulda got a access cab this time I would have. The 6 foot bed and little bit of extra space looks great.

My dad had a Mazda like that and got close to 500k on it. Thing was a beast.

    Yep.

Man, those trucks were built solid. It was just a rebadged Ford ranger but they were overbuilt for what they were. It drove like new at 165k miles when I sold it. Was a sad day haha.

I'm a child of the 1980s when almost every pickup truck was a regular cab and they're still the only good looking configuration to me. The regular cab Tacoma is like the Mazda Miata, clearly not for everyone but extremely fun. They're also the best at being a functional pickup truck. My 2003 regular cab had a payload rating of 1800 lbs. A new DCLB Tacoma has payload rating of 950 lbs. So five 200 lb. dudes in the cab and a bed full of air would put it over its rated payload. That's pathetic for a truck that's near full size 1/2 ton territory in weight, length and cost. I have owned a 2nd gen DCSB and recently spent a week in my friend's new 3rd gen DCLB. I know firsthand that they're not very comfortable passenger cars and they're not great at being pickup trucks, either. If you don't need need to haul around a bunch of mouthbreathers, like me, but you do need to do pickup truck things, like me, regular cabs are perfect.

I understand your thinking, in 1972 my dad was hit by a semi truck hauling pipe in a blizzard in Wyoming. He was following a snowplow on the interstate, his head went through the rear glass. Thankfully not hurt bad. He told Honeywell to transfer him to someplace warmer. His best friend and a rancher were stabbed to death and had been left to bleed out by the side of road helping some guys who had (unknown to them) just escaped prison in Illinois. Our experiences and vision of what we see ourselves doing in the future are but a couple of factors in our choices. I do like it when we have more choices, I’ve never understood why some one would want a 4 door truck yet I bought one when that was the only option for my power wagon, hated I could not get it in diesel and now I’m great full I could not with gas going for 2.99 gallon today quite a bit lower than diesel. Now my wife’s F-450 is diesel but it can haul our toy hauler and about 16 round bales a couple times a year. Oh yeah the guys that stabbed my dads friend to death used a knife to go through the sliding rear window to get to them. That’s my reason for not desiring a sliding window nor a single cab due my dads head going through one, plus I like a place to keep my dog warm or cool as the case may be. Extended cab seems to fit right now cause my first yota was a 2005 extended cab pre runner. Second Was the TRD 4x4 off road that was a 4 door, hated the short bed but it was a six and lacked power. As a contractor I used V8s 3/4 ton trucks cause they were more of a truck than a car. I know some guys who have a car and a truck and I’m like ??? I feel safer sitting up higher for better vision. It’s like my motorcycles I have a Beta cross trainer for the knarly stuff, a dr 650 for street 2 track and a Klx 250 for staying quiet and stealthy in the mountains to see the critters. Who knows maybe some day they’ll bring back the single cab. I think they have them in the Hilux but that’s sadly not an option here in the US. I wonder if there is an Aussie pining away for a Taco the way I do for a Hilux. It’s like looking at those travel ads. The grass is greener on the other side of the fence (sometimes).

Just got to play around in the snow in WNY in my 2.7l AC. Damn I was impressed. Little weight in the back and it went thru a few feet of snow no issue.
