    Yes a 5K

I wear em, until I need to replace them. And when they need to be replaced, I know.

Back in the day I used to count mileage on my shoes to be sure I didn't go into a race or long run with shoes riding the line. However the more experience I've gotten the better sixth sense I've developed to know when a shoe needs replacing. Also I do think you become a stronger and develop better form so shoes last longer.

For the past several years I've tried to find last years model shoes on clearance to save some money. However, because of supply chain issues and there being a reduction in the volume of new models coming out, it's been harder and harder to find those clearance pairs. I've bought 3, 2 year old model pairs here recently that wear out with less than 300 miles. The soles of a shoe degrade sitting in a box for 2 years, even if they aren't worn, and that's become pretty clear to me.

So now I'm finding myself looking at brand new models. They cost twice as much but last 3 times as long.

Shoes are a big individual preference. Depends on height, weight, stride, over all mileage, trail vs. road. Some people blow through shoes quicker than others. A new pair of shoes probably make it 700 miles for me.

What's also funny is the older I've gotten the less I tolerate padding in a shoe. For the last year I've had increasing issues with my feet and ankles and I would say over all it's the more technical trail running I've done has changed my biomechanics. So I'm more minimalist zero drop shoes now. Flat, nothing over 26mm in padding. I'm also barefoot at home all the time. My hips, glutes, and lower legs have gotten stronger, I don't need the padding, it's just getting in the way.

At this point I'm pretty much exclusive to Altra and Topo Athletic.

What are you wearing on the trails?

I have a love affair with my Lone Peaks.

Don't try to run on those on the road unless you want to be in a world of hurt lol. Especially with the rock plate in them.

On a trail though they feel like I'm on a fucking cloud.

BTW trail shoes will wear faster on the road. Just like A/T tires wear faster on the road. The tread is designed for more friction.

I'm a cheap a$$. The "grew up poor" syndrome. I used to go even further in them when I was younger. 800-1000 was the target then. The soles would be wasted on some. But I've never been more than about 150lbs, so I think I am naturally easy on shoes.

After about 50yrs old or so I started to notice my body letting me know when a shoe is causing abnormal foot strikes. But I still look to replace them around 700 miles.

All depends on the kind of running you do. My trail shoes have lasted and lasted (shockingly) but road shoes get eaten up quick.

But I do think on a trail you can use a shoe until it falls apart. Road not so much.

My trail shoes are 2 years old.

I run almost exclusively on road. There are quite a few trails on the campus I run pretty often, but they are ankle twisters. It's in a hilly part of the area. It's either do them really often or avoid them. I run them when the weather is so hot I don't want to be out of the wooded areas.

You're right though, pavement eats shoes. I used to live near a hilly golf course, and I ran it a lot in the mornings before the golfers arrived. My shoes lasted forever.

I took most of October off after training hard Aug-Sept for Oct race. I am mentally ready now, so Nov is back out there. Nov-Dec are usually still outdoors, then Jan-early Mar are probably 80% treadmill at the YMCA. At least I get in more weight work in the Winter.

Isn't that the whole point? That's why trails are fun.

The Low Gap trail in Morgan-Monroe is fun as hell. About a 10 mile loop if I remember (depending how many times you get lost). It'll whip your ass on the hills but again that's what makes it fun.

It is, but I turn 65 in two weeks. I'd have to do some cutting to run 33" A/Ts.

Yes, I have experienced a similar injury in my gym. I am a gym person. I am not a doctor, I just share my experience of my knee injury. During weight lifting I felt little pain in my leg so I thought it was okay, I kept on doing my work out and the pain increased. After I came to my home I went to my doctor. He said that I need to do physiotherapy for my knee. He also said as I do weightlift for my lower back muscles should be strong. He prescribed some medicine for my knee and some exercises for my back. After one month I feel my knee is well and my back got stronger. Now I do two kinds of weightlifting a. Upper body b. Lower body. Also, I do run. I suggest that you try to go for physiotherapy to get rid of this problem and you will be alright.

    None... yet.
Anyone use a theragun? Got one as a gift from a sister a few years back and, until recently, it just sat unused. Thought I'd give it a try on my knee the other evening after a vigorous 'weighted' walk (40 lb vest and 8 lb dumbbells) and danged if it didn't make a noticeable difference in how I felt the next morning!

I have one and honestly really don’t care for it.

Its great for specific problem areas where you have a tight muscle. Outside of that its not something I use. I prefer my bumpy foam roller.

BUT my husband has his massage therapy cert and over the years has learned Graston (myofascial release with metal tools). Obviously some little percussion messager is sub par to what options I have available.

What I would like are the compression sleeves for your legs that cool and heat. Those are awesome but super expensive for good ones.
