Hello everyone, I recently upgraded to Mastercraft courser A/T 285/75/16 tires. The max psi listed on the tire (it’s a load range E) is 80 psi. Currently they are running at 55 psi. Is that too much air or too little?

SSO hybrid bumper, Warn winch, RCI skid trilogy, RRW sliders, everything in the cheap/free mods thread, and of course the frame recall work.
Two ways to handle that question:

1 - Look on drivers door for a decal; read it for proper tire pressure. Note that it does not say anything about what the max rated pressure, tire style, sidewall ply, or load rating is of the tire - it is the tire pressure.

2 - Set to the figure listed in the owners manual. Then do the chalk test, and note that you probably need 1 or 2 pounds less in the rear than the front, unless you have a topper or are towing heavy loads, in which case the owners manual can advise.

Or you could just set to 32PSI and not bother looking at either spot or doing a chalk test since everyone that does either method will end up at 32PSI.

I run E-load rated KO2's, as does my son on his 4Runner, with a max rate of 80PSI and was set to 60 by the tire shop. Chalk test settled nicely at 32 front and 31 rear for me, and 32 all around for him.

quite honestly it does not feel too bad. it does feel a bit wobbly at highway speeds.

Probably because the tires contact patch is smaller due to the high pressure. The best answer is to do the chalk test. The lazy mans answer is to just set them at 33 psi and call it a day.

If you do look for that drivers side sticker, it will specify a particular size tire. That is the only size tire the pressure on the sticker applies to.

Recommended PSI is a function of weight rating. Every size tire has a different weight rating for a specific PSI. In general the larger the tire (larger internal area), the more weight it can support at a specific PSI. That's why you generally run less pressure as you increase the size of your tires.

The best way is to consult one of the many load tables put out by the tire manufacturers and set your tires based on the weight of your vehicle. I like the table Toyo puts out as it has directions for people who don't know what they are doing.

I upsized and kept them @ 30 psi. In the winter I put it them up to 32 psi, since you lose a few when it's cold out.
