What if you're a fisherman and your job is literally trolling at work?

 

Why don't I ever listen to that little voice inside my head? About a week ago, a guy in another chat was just absolutely ragging on ticketmaster/livenation. I was thinking, "Yah, fuck those guys, might be worth it to open some long term puts because I've been hearing more and more ruminations about how much they suck" Premiums were reasonable, greeks all looked good. Decided to think it over.

One week later the taylor swift thing and they shit the bed.

Why don't performers with Taylor Swift or Kanye West money sell their own tickets direct to the public? They could refuse to allow TM or ticket resellers to buy their tickets.

They probably wouldn't make as much money, then what would be the point.

The venues have the agreements with ticketmaster, not the artists. You wanna play the event, your tickets go through them. I don't see T-sweezy wanting to play many dive bars in Omaha

Ok, but no artist owns a large venue. So it's kind of a moot point. You're missing the picture here, I think

 

Someone who regulates that kind of industry sure could make a lot of $$$ gobbling up $3 puts right before announcing something..

 

Just open your own dairy farm if you don't like milk regulations...

The artist can host a show anywhere outside of a large venue that they don't own. Look at the Woodstock music festival, the artist does not even need to own the venue. No artist making millions of dollars selling out a corporately owned venue thru the sale of tickets via ticket master is going to.

 

Ticketmaster didn't exist during woodstock...

Furthermore a lot of the festivals now are contractually obligated to TM

What is theoretically possible, and what is the reality of the situation are two diametrically opposed things.

Artists, as a whole, loathe TM. Probably as much as the fans do. This is the problem when you have monopolies. They provide a subpar product at inflated prices. They're getting looked into as of today for antitrust practices. I, for one, will not be sad when they're broken up or shut down.

 

Seems like a monopoly. No competition.
