Can anyone help? Love my 06 Taco, 188k miles. Just changed plugs, coils a week ago. Got a cylinder 1 misfire code while driving to work. Changed coil and plug and it ran fine, drove home no problem. On way to work today and it started to miss again. Going to AA to get scanner check. It started and ran fine for like 10 minutes in am but started missing again. Have seen everything from cracked heads to bad fuel filter to battery on forum. Please help, just lost my beloved dog so this is like worst week ever.

Oil good, plug was almost new, looked ok. Just got a scan tool check and it did not give a cylinder misfire code but did give a low positive battery code, what the hell?

I did have the battery disconnected while I checked the coil, could that be why the low battery came up but not the misfire? Thank you for your help.

    Let’s start fresh.

You changed the plugs and coils.
After this, you got a cylinder 1 misfire.
So, you changed both the coil and plug (again) on cylinder 1.

    Is this correct?

Yes, I changed the coil and plug. It ran fine rest of day. It was missing while running with scan tool plugged in but I reconnected battery like 5 minutes before getting to advance auto.

    Where the coils OEM coils?
And did you have a misfire BEFORE you changed the coils and plugs the 1st time?

Coils were OEM, there was a misfire that happened 2 weeks ago and threw cylinder 1 misfire. I checked some things, cleaned terminals and the misfire and code went away.

So you had a misfire on cylinder 1 before you changed the coils and plugs?
And the problem persists even after replacement. That helps.

It may not be a coil or plug issue. It could be a fuel injector issue.

Were there any other codes, or just the one. (P0301)?

P0301, am hopefully getting a friend to look at it if he ever picks phone up. It ran fine for 5 days but then yesterday began again. It was very cold here and think I noticed my headlights dimming occasionally last night.

Anything is possible when it comes to electrically driven components.
I would think you’d have other issues if it were the battery. It would certainly be odd if the battery was causing only a cylinder 1 misfire.

    Do I think that’s the problem? No, I don’t.

Could it be the problem? Maybe, but very unlikely.

It’s possible you need a battery.
But I can’t see any reason why that’s causing only 1 issue.
And at that, a cylinder 1 only misfire.

    Here’s hoping it fixes it:fingerscrossed:

I’d keep the scan tool. Just in case.

lol, think aa would not like that. I had battery tested again, it's fine. Could it be a clogged or bad injector? Any idea how to check that?

Grasping at straws, replaced coil, plug with the ones in there before and poured like 3 containers of injector cleaner in tank. Wish me luck and THANK YOU!!!! May I get back to you tomorrow?
