They'd never let us go early...

I remember in high school that the blizzard was supposed to start at 10:30am or so... The district didn't cancel class.

Sure enough, during 3rd period (European History), the snow started flying. I could see over the track field to the far fence when class started. By the time the period was over, you couldn't see a thing.

School's policy was that they couldn't let kids go home, because they were in the care of the school until the last bell of their last scheduled class. Parents may not be home. By 3pm, there were 12+ inches of snow on the ground...

If were weren't hit in the head, no foul was committed.

People really tend to forget how much the population has increased which means the amount of clueless drivers is now off the chart.

The stunts we did and thought nothing of it. Rock Skis and snow packed roads just like Water Skiing with a 4x4

You skied till you could no longer stand between 4 of you maybe cover 100 miles in a night. I know we broke all the alpine down hill speeds . Some wicked falls never had any ER visits.

Riding in the bed of the pick up resting your arms on the roof of the cab you needed eye protection . Just like a Motorcycle but standing.

Actually watch the Nolan Ryan story on Netflix...

One of his sons said that when his dad signed the contract with the Astros, they left Southern California by pickup and he and his siblings simply took turns riding in the bed of the truck doing 65 all the way east on I-10...

I only met one of my Grandmas a few times, but I remember her talking about how she only needed a few more coupons for something she was wanting. Yeah, she died of lung cancer at about 66 yrs old.

The fun thing about those, besides avoiding crushing collisions, was...

You, as a passenger, could nonchalantly rest your arm along the top of the seat back.
Then at the right time pull the wire plug for the fuel level gauge off the connector on top of the tank itself.
The driver usually panicked when he saw the tank was reading empty and we were miles from a station.

(Played this trick on more than unsuspecting co-worker in the company trucks driving between Dallas and Ft. Worth - back before they were joined into one large clusterf...)

As a child we moved a lot and I went from school the school to school. Every school with a different game.

At Larson we were just big on swings and 4-square. In Glendale the big thing was kickball. At Litchfield Park we played dodgeball or tetherball. That depended on whether you could get to the tether balls fast enough. Woodland was broomball.

I remember watching The March Of The Wooden Soldiers in the sixties on Thanksgiving Day as a Kid.

Then later on while listening to The radio Arlo Guthrie’s Song Alice’s Restaurant would be played over and over.

That was one of the first record LPs I ever bought. It got a lot of airplay when it first came out in Minnesota.
