There is a kit for short bed and one for long bed. Be sure to order correctly.

 

I believe that they are listed as long, and extra long, if memory serves. was a bit confusing to order, at first.

 

yeah im not expecting anything actually,he pretty much said he or maybe the detective will check the cameras but theres no much to go off of since there was no witnesses

 

It would be interesting to express interest in a tailgate that matches your truck, meet the person, bring your tailgate key, and see if it works in the cylinder...

Twould be sweet justice if so. But of course it would end up the person stolen from would be the one punished.

Them getting to the camera can help, my experience more than once with parking lot stuff is the stores won't let anyone but law enforcement have access even if it shows what you need.

I ended up ordering this. It's $53.50 with paint-matching powder coating and a Torx security bolt. I liked how it looks factory rather than having a lock mechanism that needs to move with the tailgate as it opens and closes.

Shit sucks man. So do people. I hope you get it back soon though, and maybe it is time to lock my tailgate although I normally don't.

Random thought and I haven't read all 7ish pages of this thread yet so I don't know if someone already mentioned it, but I wonder if its doable to mount an airtag in it to track it?

No offense though, california is a biiig part of the problem.

 

Haha, I live in CA. I’m worried about my tailgate or Catalytic Converter getting stolen daily.

 

update: after many months dealing with insurance (claim adjuster) they finally payed out on my claim. Heres the final result

 

You didn’t need the unicorn sticker on that tailgate anyways…. JK. Sorry you had that hassle, sucks.

Now is a good time to put washers backed with a small spacer on your tailgate cable support bolts so the next thief can’t slip the cable eyes off as easily.

 

That’s the one I have. I would be interested to know how it is easily defeated, being mindful of the fact that a determined thief can always find a way.

 

If a thief wants something bad enough they are going to get it. It's a matter of making it tough enough that they will go to the next guy. I have the factory tonneau cover, plus I always lock my tailgate. So far its worked for me.
