New to the forum; what to know before getting a Tacoma?

They are expensive!

$35,000 for a SR V6 4x4 at least it still has a key and no power seats.

 

I get where you're coming from, but they have a worse ride quality and not super practical unless you're doing a lot of off roading and putting on big lifts.

 

Expensive is a bit of an understatement nowadays . Just test drove a Tacoma today and I nearly threw up in my mouth at the lease price they threw at me. $668 a month for a Limited, and they said that the lower trims would lease worse because the residual at the end of the year is about the same or less. Quite a difference from my $388 a month lease three years ago before I bought out my Colorado!

That being said, it drove like a DREAM. For a truck that considered "old school" but today's standards, it's incredibly refined. I was honestly really impressed.

 

I wouldn't buy a new Toyota at their current pricing structure.

You can lease a new 22 Frontier S for $169 a month. I still wouldn't lease a vehicle.

 

All these vehicles are really astronomically high. The manager at the dealership wasn't aggressive at all today, which is something I've honestly never seen at a car dealership. He said if I wanted something in the $400-range, go for a Corolla SE... OKAY.

What about selling my current truck and buying a Tacoma? Still a bad idea?

And tbh, I'm not too sure how I feel about jumping into a Nissan, especially with all the problems my friend has had with his.

 

I know I am a 2nd Gen owner, But let me just say. I own a 2005 and it has 230,226 Miles and it's all mine and nobody else will ever own this truck. I will own this truck till the fenders and doors fall off.

 

That's the SAME mindset I had with my truck. I absolutely love it and was ready to drive it till the doors fell off, but at this point, I just don't want to be on the hook if this disaster of a transmission decides to clobber me again

 

Which is what I do, so get your shit together toyota, and build one lol

 

I had to do the Head Gasket that the 2005's had the problem with at 137,000 miles. Since then (Knock On Wood) She Has Been Bullet Proof.

 

All trucks are astronomically priced. I was surprised to see a SR V6 with a MSRP of 35K that exludes the SX pkg, for 35K you should at least get some unpainted plastic flares.

I did want to see Toyota build a V6 SR 4x4 AC, I think 23 is the first year for that configuration but 35k?

The comparably equipped nissan is actually few $100 more, but Nissan didn't sell that truck two years ago. Two years ago a SR SX V6 AC was around 33k MSRP. Now you have to buy a SR5 to get the SX pkg, and it still has chrome on the exterior. Frontier SV optioned the same as a SR5 is a few $100 more MSRP. OTD the Toyota dealer is going to add market adjustments, or add ons. Never been to the Nissan dealer so I can't say what they try to add to the sale.

I'm sure there's a Toyota dealer out there selling for MSRP, but do they have the truck you want?

I thought the Nissan lease on select trucks S king cab at 169 a month for 48 mos is an attractive lease. If you plan on turning it in at the end.

IMO the Frontier looks better black headlight housings and tailights, tail lights have led brake lights. I wouldn't expect the Nissan to out last the Toyota. I would also like to see how an untreated Nissan frame compares to an untreated Toyota frame.


I wouldn't mind getting into a RC F250 those MSRP around 50k and above, or a GM RC 2.7t short bed those MSRP around 40k. Midsize trucks are easier to wash.
