When did you cut the vent in the hood? Turbo getting too hot?

 

few months ago. did it out of boredom. but it does make an insane difference to underhood temps. when fan kicks in its crazy how much restriction it is to push that air out from the engine bay

 

Ha nice. Yeah I'd though if doing louvers or a scoop at some point.

 

When I did mine, I packed that whole area with grease, not just the pump. I don't know if it was necessary, but it did work seamlessly. My thought process was that air is compressible, so the fewer air pockets there are, the better.

 

She’s running! Gotta adjust my belts a bit I think they’re too tight otherwise everything seems good. Still gotta fix the oil filter housing leak but that’s a thanksgiving adventure.

I noticed on my initial test drive that when at a stop in drive it would idle low in the 600s. Previously it’s always been in 700-750 range. Is this expected as I had the battery disconnected for a week and the ECU is learning after a few cycles?

 

I think so. Mine is around there too when I’m in drive. In park is usually around 700-850 I believe.

 

Final swap update -

Was able to confirm the odd noise I was hearing was the carrier bearing on this aftermarket DS and not the torque converter. I was going to swap in a Spicer CB but the stake nut on this one is not the same size as OEM. Instead of messing with it my plan for tomorrow is to drop off my PreRunner DS and have it shortened and rebuilt/balanced. Should've listened to TW and did this in the first place. Live and learn I guess.

Transmission is shifting fine and temp doesn't want to climb higher than 170. Of course it's 63 degrees outside and the Hayden cooler (installed w/the swap) is doing its job. Happy so far with this 1999 T4R transmission.

My speedo cut out today, re-seated the connector on the tcase and its working so maybe just a loose connection, will monitor. Transfer case seems to be fine after a complete rebuild except chain. Might have to go back in since I removed the synchronizer ring but its working - just have a slight intermittent grind when going from 4L to N and into 4H. Again, will monitor.

During the 4WD swap, I had pulled the ARB bumper to 'refurb' it. Lots of scratches and wanted to refresh its look. Went the bedliner spray in a rattlecan route and after a couple of re-dos, I was satisfied. After Krylon and Rustoleum both failed, Duplicolor TR-250 worked out great (thx @Speedytech7 for the tip). Also put in new LBJs, UBJs, and stabilizer bushings w/new end links. Front driveshaft received new U-Joints.

A lot of work, wrenching and learning but I'm glad to be done - for now.

Sliders/winch & replace the 881s will come in January.

Alignment is on Tuesday.

There is definitely a level of comfort in knowing all the ends and outs of the mechanicals while you are on the trail. No better way to get that knowledge than to do what you just did.

I have not.

I'm actually still torn between 882s and 883s. Was reading a couple of threads last night which made me start thinking about 883s all over again. Doublecab 6cyl with the ARB + adding a winch, sliders and partial or full skids have no idea if that's going to push it into 883 country. Going to call ARB support and see what they recommend.

Thx for the heads-up, if I go that route will let you know.

 

Yeah just let me know if you go with 882s and we'll work somethin out. Mine have some miles on them but they're still in good shape...definitely not sagging any lol

 

Not mine, but my youngest son’s 02. He wanted to add TRD style stripes on it, so we spent yesterday doing it. He had to order more white to do behind the rear doors.

 

I drove my truck for the first time in 10 months today.
