Hello I have a 2012 Tacoma TRD sport and it has 160,000 miles and bought it last year. Since I bought it I've had an instance of about once a month where I'm at a stop and the truck will either roll back and then when i accelarate the torque will cause the truck to jerk. It has also happened on flat ground but only if i stop real quick and then accelerate. I was wondering if anyone else has this issue and if its a cause of concern.

I’d your truck has an Automatic Transmission, I’d start with checking the fluids.

Aslo, when is the truck rolling back?
After you let off the brake press the gas pedal?

it is automatic and it is rolling back on at stop signs or lights that are an incline. and yes whenever i go to switch from the brake. I had the transmission fluid changed whenever I bought the truck last year.

    Who did the fluid change?
These trucks don’t have a dipstick to check the fluid.
And they are not particularly easy to check the fluid level.

I had a dealership nearby do the fluid change last. I did take it to a different local shop and they were .5 quart low on the fluid so then I took it to the dealer because I had some other issue like the gears were holding longer and the mpg dropped drastically and the dealer fixed that.

This is no cause of concern. This is due to axle wrap during accel and decel (normal for leaf spring trucks) which causes your drive shaft slip yoke to "not slip" under this torque, and causes your driveshaft to wobble in the rubber mounted center bearing until it settles out. So you commonly feel it as a vibration during acceleration, or a clunk at a stop. The rubber mount is poorly designed IMO, and I swear a stiffer rubber would resolve this, but I don't think anyone makes such a thing. I went through the trouble of replacing mine with a parts store brand, it was a huge pain to do (at least for me) and didn't even make a difference! What made a difference was dropping the center of the driveshaft so I could lubricate the slip yoke. If you do this yourself make sure to mark everything so it all goes back the same way, it is a balanced assembly. I think I used some kind of moly lube? There are posts about this. Either way, this fix doesn't seem to last all that long unfortunately and i've done it twice. I may try to use more lube than before but I kind of just accepted this as a unique Tacoma thing.
