Years ago I worked with a fellow who had been a GM dealer mechanic when the 350 diesel was current, he bought many of the diesel cars as cheap trade ins and got good use out of them.

The good ones he said were cars used by salesman and the like, the ones that got the miles put on them. Using a diesel as an in town daily driver doesn't work very well.

There it is, the same old EV problem in black & white, 316 mile range followed by an overnight charge.

This month I took two day trips of around 350 miles each -- over the capacity of that $100k vehicle. 0-60 in 3 seconds isn't very useful if I can't get home.

I would agree, but if I had to buy an EV, it would be one of these instead of a CyberTruck...

You remember that time Oldsmobile took the gasoline 350 engine and decided to make it a diesel.

I the Rivian, but you also have to think about serviceability. Tesla has a lot more support…….for now.

I think I heard some GM dealerships are going to do some service for them???

Not sure if that’s a good thing, or a bad thing. Time will tell I guess?

Found the spare set of keys to my old sunbird while cleaning up in the garage over the weekend. Back in the days of separate keys for the doors and ignition. Made me think of ya Charlie @PennSilverTaco

Ahh, back in the days of car keys that could be copied by a locksmith.

My dad's 1993 S-10 Blazer is the only vehicle my parents owned from the time I was born that I recall having two keys. The 1990 Camry, both Mazda pickups, and the 1996 Pathfinder both had one key for doors and ignition; I can't remember if the 1992 Dakota had separate keys...

Ha. A friend had an old Ford Ranger with a busted ignition switch. You didn’t even need the key to start the thing. Just turn the tumbler. He would use the key to lock the door.

My buddy's 76 Cutlass was like that, the tumbler was all yanked out so he used pliers to turn the guts inside.

Those were the ones. He had a long commute to work.
He could buy the diesels for pretty much auction value and have a large comfortable car that got exceptional fuel economy.

Working at the dealership he had all the books and special tools.

My favorite was the ‘87 Jeep Cherokee I had. Since that was still in the days when AMC owned Jeep, it was a mishmash of parts from all over. Iirc it was a Chevy ignition key and ford door key
