Remote Start - 3rd gen (2020 TRD OR)

Lookin for guidance/ help/ advice. Just got a 2020 TRD OFF ROAD. Seen several YouTube videos including one from Toyota saying remote start with factory key fob is just three clicks of the lock button - holding down the last. Mine didn’t work. Also, seeing a few options to purchase some kits on AMZN. what am I missing?

I think it has to be optioned with the truck? I could be wrong.

My ‘20 TRDOR works like that.

there’s kits though that you can buy if it’s not equipped.

 

There is a very long thread talking about this in depth and what to do if it is not working.

Also, MANY threads about how the truck will shut off when you unlock/open the door, which is annoying and poor programming on Toyota's part.

4 clicks holding down the last… to my surprise it worked for me after two years of trying 3 clicks. Hope it works for you!

 

If you do purchase check out the N2 designs remote start with the smartphone module. I love being able to start my truck, unlock it, or track its location from anywhere with my phone. They also have an updated version that alerts your phone when the alarm goes off. That feature is not compatible with mine though

 

Same here it works better on the fourth click. Been doing the 3 clicks and sometimes it would work or not. 4 clicks works every time saw this on Utube.

Try using your spare key, I've noticed my daily used key has a weak signal and the remote start only works half the time. Pre-2020 requires a subscription if i remember correctly after the "trial" with toyotacare app runs out.

 

Don't rush the clicks either. Three deliberate clicks with a full release each time and mine started up.

 

Just picked up a 2022 TRD Sport, 2,000 miles on it... Poor guy was looking for a base model, like fleet truck and got suckered by the dealer. Anyway, 4th click press and hold worked for me. Appreciate the help.

 

Are you saying you got suckered? Did they not have 2023 fleet trucks available?

 

Not me, the poor guy that bought the truck 6 months ago and paid all the dealer fees, closer "deals", taxes and destination fees... he just wanted to be out from under it... told me he likes to drive without a seatbelt... the Taco won't let him do that without making "a bunch of racket", LOL. In my estimation, he lost about $8K in the deal. Sold my 2016 Sport 3 years ago, owned it 12 years and one day... got a new job complete with an hour commute so didn't want to rack the miles up on my old love. Been waiting for the right deal now that I'm closer to work, and this beauty popped up on CL... jumped quick and now I'm back in the saddle!

 

I got tired of messing with this and trying 3 clicks, or 4 clicks, etc. It never worked on my 2020 AC.. I bought the Start X kit and it works perfectly every time. Literally took less than 15 minutes to install from start to finish..

 

this is usually the problem, fully semi automatic clicks don't work.

 

Same...fun story...after going to the dealer and them immediately saying "well we install remote starts", seeing that EVERY 2020+ should have the capability to at minimum using the FOB to start it etc I emailed Toyota with my VIN asking what is the deal. They sent me the spec sheet for my truck telling sorry no, your truck doesn't have that capability. I don't care what anyone says, the fact that the dealer offered to install a remote start 3 seconds after I asked tells me something smells fishy. IDK how or what the criteria is, but from reading all the posts on here any 2020+ can do it, it's just some weird thing you have to add or whatever to get it. So annoying!!
