N2 designs remote starter

Drop it down behind the kick panel at the bottom of the A pillar. I think it was Jimmy from N2 that suggest that location for best reception.
Seems to work well.

 

I’m interested in this for my MT as well. Does it come with detailed instructions / do you guys have any advice? Also, do you definitely have to do any splicing or is there a way around that? Just kind of nervous about any splicing, so wanted to see what this entails before buying. Thanks!

 

The instructions were fine in my experience, plenty detailed. If I remember correctly, there was one wire that needed to be cut (TPMS), and another that needed to be tapped with a T tap type connector that's provided (Clutch Start Cancel). I would think both are easily reversible. I was slightly nervous about that as well but it wasn't bad at all.

Not so much advice, but I opted for the cell phone module and would 100% go that route again, I believe the subscription for it is $100 for 3 years. It has been well worth it to me to be able to open the app and start the truck and have it confirm that it's started in the app without having to be within eyesight and distance of the truck (works at any distance as long as phone and truck module are within cell service). I can start it from my desk at work and know it started in the parking lot.

My only mild annoyance with it is the whole "arming" sequence with the manual transmission can be inconvenient at times. Arming it is easy, push the brake pedal, put it in neutral, pull the E-brake, foot off the brake, wait for relay and doors to "click", turn key off and remove (truck stays running), get out, shut drivers door (truck shuts off when door is closed) and hit the lock button once on the keyfob. Honestly, it's 90% the same as I would normally do so it's easy to remember. The part that sucks is that doing anything out of that ordinary sequence cancels the arming state, making it so it won't be ready for remote start unless you start the truck up and re-do that sequence before shutting it off again. If you arm the truck, and forget something in the cab, opening the doors again cancels it. Unloading stuff from the cab (i.e. groceries), the truck has to stay running and the drivers door shut last. It's all to ensure that the vehicle is safe to remotely start, namely that it's in neutral with the parking brake applied. If the arming sequence wasn't cancelled by reopening the doors, one could accidently bump the stick into gear, which would not be good as the truck tries to start in gear with the parking brake applied. I get why it is like it is, but it is mildly inconvenient at times.

Overall, I love the remote starter, and I use it all the time during the winter in the midwest. These trucks don't seem to get up to full operating temp idling in the cold, no matter how long they run for, so I use it more as a pre-window defroster rather than having expectations that I'm getting into a toasty warm truck, but everything helps when it's 20 below outside.

 

I've had this too since early 2018 and it's been great.... one thing with my arming sequence though, I don't have to lock it at the end. The truck locks itself as the last step.

 

Interesting, I'll have to try that. Mine does beep once like the lock button was hit a few seconds after I lock it with the fob, so maybe I'm just impatient.

Do you also have the Cell phone control module? I’m 100% getting the Remote Start. Just trying to decide if I’ll want the phone module. At home I can use the fob in the morning before work. It’s leaving work that I’d need the phone module.

 

Have you confirmed that your truck doesn't have OEM remote start? I think many of the newer trucks do..

I do not, but I've heard good things.

 

The cell module is really great.
It has two way communication, so you get confirmation of start without looking at the truck.
If you push the start button again, you can change the countdown timer from 15min to 30min.
It also allows you to lock/unlock from your phone (or just check the status if you have OCD like me...)
And, I can see where my truck is, which has been nice in large parking lots.

The oem fob range is not that good and doesn't confirm start, so for us this was a necessity.

 

Get the module. I got mine at first without it and regretting it pretty much right away. I ended up going back and installing it.

For similar reasons as you. At work it was hit or miss if my fob would work. And its really nice to be able to start it without seeing it too. For example I'll start it while waiting for the bill at a restaurant.

 

Does cutting the TPMS have any negative effect?

 

It's not really getting "cut". It gets wired to a relay in the remote starter so that it can be disconnected when remote starter is active. Other than that it stays connected.
