Yesterday I was sitting in traffic, waiting for a light to go green, when suddenly I got jolted, and everything in the cab went flying everywhere. I looked back and there was a Hyundai SUV type deal with the front end absolutely smashed.

I think my hitch took most of the hit. It bent down along with the bumper (and I think some of the frame because the bottom part of the bed is closer to the cab, now) and it lifted my ass end into the air, giving him a solid chunk of metal to drive his car into. It drives ok (I think) and it still goes straight when I let go off the wheel. The rear end is all messed up, though.

    Is it totaled?IMG_20221121_114143.jpg IMG_20221121_114159-01.jpg IMG_20221121_114143.jpg IMG_20221121_114159-01.jpg

    Oh look, another mod....

If you took it in the ass, yeah...you're totaled. Start shopping for a new ride.

Looks pretty patched up to me with the duck tape you got on there.

Haha, in all serious, no way to 100% know for sure until you have somebody look at it and see if/any frame damage.

If the frame is bent, then most likely, but hard to say by just looking at the pics, you should take into a body shop.

It would depend on how much it's going to cost. I do not believe Toyota allows for repairs of sections of the frame, so the whole frame would have to be replaced. Depending on how long you'll need a loaner car, how long Toyota takes to get your shop a frame and how much everything else is going to cost, it very well could. My 2015 Tacoma was totaled after a front end collision because the frame was bent and it was going to take 2 months for a frame to get to my shop.

Ha, frame damage is more obvious than the duct tape. LOL.

Frame is bent. Whether the insurance co. decides to do frame replacement vs totaling is an accounting decision.

    Totalled.

Mine happened in June and is pretty much identical to yours ( see pic)

    start looking.

It sucks and I know exactly how you feel right now. The reason why it’s totalled is the frame is on back order, so the cost of giving you a rental for months would add up fast, so insurance will just total it to make it simpler.

A frame is like 5k and 31 hours of labor plus the bumper stuff. Might be a fixer. Id get it to a shop and see what insurance says. Might need bedsides ect. Id say 50% repairable at this point.

When my 2000 Tacoma was crashed the boxed section in front was completely bent and caved in, they put it on the frame machine to repair.

Fixable, but probably would need to add an ute tray instead of the bed.

Per Toyota you can not section a frame due to the material its made out of.

Your insurance adjuster will let you know, he/she gets to decide, but it definitely is going to cost a lot, and unfortunately be in the shop for a long time if they do fix.
Maybe ask the adjuster to research lead times on a new frame before making a decision? I’ve read they take months and months to get.

It would be nice if Tammy-Texter that hit you had to sit it out just as long.

Agreed. Especially being a ‘21, it could go either way.

Any damage to the back of the cab could just push it over the edge too.

Tammy texter. Lmao. Phone companies themselves should begin the process of being responsible for distracted driving. Like bars, restaurants that get someone drunk and let them drive away.

Gotta always blame someone. Not the person actually being responsible for their own wrong doing.

My guess is $7777 to fix.
