Hide a handgun

I would too, but my gut decided it’s not a comfortable option and I find this way is more accessible while in the truck. Plus it helps to have a place to put it when picking up the kiddo from school, running into the post office, etc.

 

Having a sturdy knife handy has turned out to be a lifesaver - glad to see several here. Gets trapped citizens out of their safety belts when there isn't time to study..........

 

Carry on your person in a holster. If you need to leave it in a truck, run a locking cable through the gun and attach it underneath the seat. In CT at least you're required to carry on your person when driving a vehicle. Can't just mount is somewhere using magnet here.

We live in 2022. Times have changed.

West Hartford, CT for example. Average household income $122k. Multimillion dollar homes, and someone got carjacked. Bad guys got bolder and they tend to drive to nice areas, where they can get nice things.

 

Best idea I've seen is the pocket on the front of a seat cover. Not easily seen, but you have immediate access. I keep mine in a holster stuffed between the driver seat and the center console. The fit is tight enough that I can draw the gun but the holster stays there. It isn't hidden, but I'm not worried about that, when I leave the truck, the gun leaves the truck. In NC, you have to have it in plain sight in a vehicle unless you have a CC permit, which I do have.

 

This. If you can put it on the downward slope of the dash but not against electronics, you'll have a good staging position for when you need it out of your holster in the truck for quick access. Otherwise it's holstered IWB.

H&K VP9, CZ P10C, and G19 do not budge on the magnet.

 

I get what you saying and I do appreciate it. However, carrying a fire arm in my truck is not going to happen nor do I carry daily. I read somewhere (maybe one can chime in) the highest theft of guns into bad guys hands is from cars. Overall, I enjoy my guns, and I fully support our freedom to own and use them. Just in my personal opinion, a car is not the best place to keep or store them.

 

I can see both sides of the debate. Without investing too heavily into the argument, I'll just say that not entering the fray is always, always my first option, with running/deescalating a close second. If they already have the drop on me, then its a highly unlikely last stand scenario if I ever have to draw.

 

Carry Cross draw and be done!!

The weapon is always in the same spot practice till your drawing from the seat is muscle memory.

We went round and round with this years ago this worked out to be the best option .

Quick note: Your vehicle cannot even be in the parking lot of the post office with a firearm in it, as moronic as that is. That is government's solution to the post office's own people shooting up the post office. So you'll need to park elsewhere and walk.

 

It's already been said, but the best place to carry is on your person for many reasons. If you need to use it, having it attached to your body is almost always superior to other options. Storing it in the truck when you're not there is a problem especially in high density areas where vehicle break-ins become more likely, and again it isn't on your person if you need it.

That being said, sometimes I use the center console or the tray to the right of the steering wheel to hold a pistol if I don't feel like wearing it, although appendix carry can be plenty comfortable depending on the person and the pistol/holster.

Having a small locking safe in the truck is essential for legally travelling through tyrannical states like NJ.

 

I agree…100% of home invasions happen in homes and 100% of car jackings happen in vehicles. It’s best to protect you and the others around you whenever you can.

 

Here’s my favorite hiding spot:

Barsony holster. Also, works great inside the waistband, which is how I typically wear it when out and about.

If traveling with multiple handguns, (e.g. driving to the range), I have this safe locked to my seat undercarriage, to temporarily store pistols that are “off body”.

 

We are lucky in NH because we we have Sig Sauer academy, which have great courses. One of these days I would love to take one.

 

The OP asked for ideas for mounting in his truck and 90% of the responses are anything but. I am trying to decide myself and have considered the magnet mount for driving then stashing in glovebox or a console safe when it has to be left in the truck for a brief bit.

I would say anything that works for you. Holster and carry style to me are exactly like what firearm you prefer to carry. If you can shoot good with it and can hit your target, carry that. With a hiding spot are you seeking a spot to just leave a handgun all the time or if you’re walking somewhere you can’t take a firearm? Anywhere out of sight is ok but you risk your firearm falling victim to a smash and grab. I would say any locking “vault” in the vehicle is better than nothing. I have had the gun vault in the past that has a cable you wrap around a seat or something similar. I’ve usually modified it with a larger cable.

Yes, gun violence happens. But that was kind of a weird comment.

 

I have thought this over for a year and a half on my 21. I can't figure out anywhere I can "hide" mine where I still have easy and quick access.

Console safe is a good safe option but eliminates quick access.

Beside the seat or in front of the seat gives quick access but eliminates concealment.
