New Toyo Open Country A/T III tire

This is a really old post, but I'd like to hear more comparisons between the AT3s and the ST Maxxs if you could

 

After having the ST Maxx’s for almost a year I have been super happy with them. Still stand by that they are quieter than the toyo at3 but I think it may just be a noise pitch thing where it’s less noticeable than the toyo.

 

How loud are we talking? MT loud or louder than normal for an AT? Notice any difference in fuel milage? The toyos are much lighter than the coopers

 

the Toyo’s aren’t loud they just seemed to hit a weird frequency that seemed to annoy both my wife and I. Hard to say about mpg hit, I reheated the truck a couple weeks after changing tires and it took a def hit them but I also added a front lsd so the front driveshaft is always spinning up and turning the shaft in the transfer case.

 

I guess I'll have to take a chance

 

Anyone have any photos or a review posted somewhere in this thread for the LT255/75R17 size for this tire?

Looks like a good balance between weight and functionality

Do you know the weight for these tires?

 

I run the 255/70r17, which is 31.1", on wheels with zero offset and love them. They are quiet on the highway. Work great in the snow. Don't rub anywhere. And best of all didn't hurt my MPG.

Also I have almost 40k miles on the tires with zero issues besides needing a rebalance when I had them first installed because the shop did a bad job balancing.

 

Those are on my list too. I think that must be a newer size offering because they don’t seem to be available at many places. I didn’t see them listed at discount or tire track. The duratrac comes in that size.

 

Posted something a while back about a slick as shit snowy drive from Denver to Silverton. Took it slow but made it would out breaking traction. Dash cam captured some shiny icy spots on the Million Dollar Highway. Still running well and plenty of tread left.

 

Yeah wanted this size too when I bought mine a while back. Guess next set. I had that size in the Duratracs and fit great. Returned them due to needing an E rated.

 

Would you recommend these Toyo AT3's or Goodyear Duratrac's for snow/ice? Several recommend the duratracs for snow, but claim the lack of siping makes them slicker than snot on ice. Seems like maybe the AT3's would do better.

 

Only ran them for a couple of weeks and returned them for the AT3s. Most reports said they loose a lot of traction halfway through their tread and become much more noisy. They were grippy when I put them in snow though.

 

My cousin has Duratracs and they are noticably better in snow/ice conditions.
But they are louder on road and aren't available in the size I wanted so I went with the Toyos

 

If mainly snowy roads I’d go Toyos. If mainly off road snow wheeling I’d go dura tracks. Jmo

 

Do you still have the stock ADD? I’m considering the same LSD with ADD delete (&manual FJ tcase) but not sure how that would affect turning radius in 2WD

 

I have 285/75R16 on my Tacoma that have gotten great use. They are almost done now with close to 80k on them. Will get another set since I only need 3 now (got 5 last time).

we have the subject Toyos in 285/45R22 on my wife’s Tahoe. They’ve been great in snow, wet PNW, in Baja, and doing the long road trips in between while loaded down and towing heavy trailers. I don’t really track mpg because that’s depressing but they’re not loud
