Are you working for free? If so it seems as though the blessings go both ways. Hell... if you are as good as some people seem to think you are and getting paid a lot of money... they are still lucky to have you. But yeah... it's a blessing to be doing something you love.

Taco turned 5k miles today. Not bad for 1 1/2 years. But it's wintertime now and I'll put a few more thousand on it. But I think k it's pretty cool to have such low miles on it.

Yeah, looked all through that list - because that's the bus, and they go to Luling too - neither is on the "listed locations". Can't get further on that site without an account, so I'm not messing with it until after the holidays.

I had my 2019 Highlander for two years. 7000 Miles on it.

My Tacoma is coming up on two year mark, 17,500 miles. Over half the miles are Colorado trips. It's fun when getting older to get out and do things.

Great granddaughter got her first job at McDonalds few days ago. Proud of her. McD's has a great program for school age kids. This kind of stuff needs to be newsworthy.

Would not expect to see a 14-century quote by Thomas à Kempis in this forum.

About 17 years ago we were in a McDonalds, parents do a lot for their kids, I overheard a MxDonalds manager talking to a teen job applicant. He wanted to see the report card and said, " our employees need to have and maintain a C average in school". I have always had respect for McDonalds, but that conversation just sealed the deal. McDonalds shareholder reports used to include a coupon for a sandwich. Always an adventure when I cashed one in, most managers had never seen one.

Good morning. The turkey is in the fridge with a dry brine consisting of 4 TBS Kosher salt, 1 TBS Lawrey's seasoned salt, and 1 TBS Chipotle seasoning. Going to get the grills ready today for the cooks tomorrow. Make the ham glaze and the rub coating for the ham. I also have to put the mulching plate back on the John Deere zero turn and put air in the Avalon's front tires. The cold weather does affect tire pressure.

    Everyone have a great Thanksgiving.

I like the work ethic. One thing I wish we'd do. Start a formal program of mentoring / craftsman / journeyman training in the trades. Plenty of jobs cannot be outsourced. Young people need good paying jobs that lead to competency and proficiency, knowledge and expertise. Experienced craftsmen need people willing to learn and develop. IMHO no one needs to seek additional school or jobs training and have debt. How will anyone be able to afford trucks / homes? In debt for life? Sorry, it's Wednesday but feels like Friday to me. :frusty:

    Good "Happy Hump Day" all.

Hi Susan How you be? :hattip:

Congrats to the Great Grand Daughter Mark . One more step to the rest of her life. I hope they treat her well there, I have heard too many horror stories of mismanagement taking advantage of kids. Tell her Congratulations on her job.

So true. Some folks are good with books while some like myself were always good with my hands on. Never went to college but always earned a good living turning wrenches. My Grandson who is a good kid but lazy as hell when it came to school work made us proud by graduating and is now going to work with an electrician until he can get into an apprentice ship program .

Wishing you all a great Thanksgiving and a good weekend.

    Morning all:

Congrats to the great granddaughter Mark, one good thing about first jobs is that you can always quit and move on from there without too much invested time, maybe she could save enough money and buy a franchise one day!
I don't know if that's even possible anymore, but a guy in our area started working at a McDonalds and the owner liked him, that guy eventually went on to own multiple franchises and ended up being very wealthy.
That was when McDonalds was in its infancy, what do they say, he was at the right place at the right time!

We've been struggling to fill job openings here at my work for quite some time now and they've finally resorted to using a head hunting agency. Most of our machinists are nearing retirement and so are some of our mechanics. Part of the issue is within a roughly 10 mile radius there are a large number of warehouses that are paying pretty decent money for laborers requiring little to no real job experience. Younger folks around here don't realize how those places churn through workers due to the fast pace, shift quotas, and odd work shifts. I work for a smaller, family owned shop and they just can't pay what the big warehouses like Fed Ex and Amazon are paying. We offer a Monday-Friday day shift place to work but we can't start people at the kind of money a business like Amazon can.
