Threw my MRAs on yesterday. Still getting much less lift than advertised with the 352 coils I have, so I need to raise the seat height a little bit. A bit annoyed that these coils have been such a let down twice now. Feels great so far driving around. Mounting the rear resi brackets were a bit of a pain, drilling through the frame in 20 degree weather while laying on snow and ice was tough. We did a temporary solution for the rear driver side just so I could drive home last night, once we adjust everything I’ll post pictures. I’m hoping raising the coil seat height doesn’t affect the ride quality too much since they’re rated for heavy front end and I’m stock, but I’m getting 1.25” of lift (supposed to be 2.4”) with them mounted at 213mm. I got around 1.5” of lift with them previously on the 221 struts and then maybe 2.5” on the 220 struts.

The paperwork that comes with the coilovers says that 226mm is the maximum height they should be set to. 1/4" taller adds 1/2" of lift, it's a 1:2 ratio.

    ------

So, you have about 1/2" threads to play with or 1" of lift ( to 2.25"). I went with a 1/4" top-out spacer, so comparatively 2.75" lift, but reduced because of the winch bumper. I have 354's waiting to be installed... GL!

Yep, gonna set to 226mm and I have a 1/4” top strut spacer ready to go if needed. We shall see. I don’t wanna disassemble the strut so gonna have a shop close by that can toss the entire strut assembly into a coil compressor until the lock rings are loose. I put the first rebound ball bearing into orbit last night so I really don’t want to lose the last one…

@Crikeymike At what point are bump stops, both front and rear, needed or advised with MRAs? I did not do long travel rears. I blew my front 220s out because of bottoming out too hard

I’m not Mike obviously, just have a lot of experience with cars and life. I upgrade bump stops at any lift 2” or more. Maybe not needed on a pavement princess but if it’s going to see anything off road or might hit a nasty bump at speed it’s a real good idea.

I got the IMS kits and went with the Timbren u-bolt flip kit and their bumps all around. I also have a set of wheelers just case I need to switch things up.

I do this because of the things I can’t always see or if I get into the skinny pedal too much. I hit a bad rut in a friends taco with a spacer lift while out deer hunting. Didn’t see or misjudged the terrain and ended up breaking the bottom of the front shocks completely off. Replaced the factory shocks and got him some super bumps as an “I’m sorry, man” that truck still has the same lift and another 65k miles on it.

Sounds like you do some serious driving. I recommend upgrading them to anyone that does the type of driving that could or will bottom out the suspension often.

I don't have much to add except suspension should be cycled both front and rear to confirm the shocks will not bottom out before the bumpstops kick in, and that extended shocks past 1/2" or so will require bumpstop extensions to meet the extended length. :notsure: Here's some copy paste info:

Per Dobinsons: MRA fitment on a new Tacoma, and they determined that all Tacomas need to use the MRA59-A220 fronts instead of the 221's. They said that the length of travel doesn't exceed any limitations on the front ends.

This may or may not help, but at about 7:00 he talks about max compression limited by bump stops:

At about 13:15 he talks about 1/2" top-out spacer doesn't bottom out bump stops.

    I personally use durobumps: https://durobumps.com/product/3rd-gen-toyota-tacoma-front-bump-stops/

At 4:23 here you can see wheelers bumpstops in action.

At 2:52 you can see the durobumps comparison and install @ClassyTacos

Haha! There's no way I can match his accent or expertise! I'm just a keyboard warrior  He's a Youtube Superstar! :D

Who would have thought that limiting your lift to 2 inches actually gives you more suspension travel? @7:55 Part 2

@Crikeymike dont see my struts marked A/B and want to be completely sure. Left strut in the pic is seated higher so this is the driver side correct?

Been saying this for years and I show people this video and people still think they need a 6-in rough country lift.

I have an extended rear travel in box waiting to be installed. Got the extended brake lines. Question is, for those who have done extended travel, what bumpstops did you go with? I have the timbren flip kit. Wonder if that'll be enough?
