Agreed. Get your tailgate stolen or your wallet stolen protecting your tailgate.

Yeah but for peace of mind and it’s a lot cheaper than a insurance deductible. A wire hose clip just doesn’t cut it anymore.

okay so $110 for a sabellco or $135 for the OEM remote tailgate lock…the sabellco is hugely overpriced.

People say that, but it works. Tailgate Thieves aren't carrying a grip of tools, and they aren't going to spend the time trying to remove a hose clamp and risk getting caught in the act.

So if I manually lock my tailgate with my key I still need another lock?
    WTF - Cat thefts
    - Spare tire thefts
    - Tailgate thefts

Time to hire a security guard everywhere we park. This is insane, time for old West justice like they did for horse thieves.

    2017 Tacoma OR 4x4 (formerly 2002 OR 4x4, 1995 4x4 4Runner, 1985 4x4 Toy PU) ... and RIP’s (rust in pieces) to a Bronco II 4x4 & S10 Blazer 4x4
:facepalm:hose clamps DON’T keep your tailgate safe, you can easily break them off with a large flat head screwdriver in less than 10 seconds (try it!)

The safest options are keep it locked, use washers to cover over the removable tailgate support cable eyes so they can’t be taken off, and use a hinge lock (Sabelco, etc.)

Cable eye washer fix (put a small spacer behind the washer so the cable eye can still rotate):

Signed up just to thank community for bringing awareness to this, second third gen, no issue yet, but didn’t even know this was a thing! Locked tailgate immediately yesterday, first time doing so in either, hopefully parking by the cameras at work helps too…. I was more concerned with CAT/fuel theft since our fuel doors don’t even lock, WTF to the idiot thieves drilling hard working people’s tanks, had buddy get siphoned out of current gen Ranger while parked at boat ramp, and not supposed to be able to do so with their cap/system, at least they left enough for him to get to gas station, but if drilled, woulda been stuck and likely when trying to pull boat up ramp.

I recall hearing about copper thieves electrocuting selves in copper theft attempts, surely somewhere one of these losers will create a spark while lighting their crackpipe or from the drill/bit itself, who is buying gas from these people selling out of the trunk of their cars like the meat thieves I once saw on wrong side of town lol people buying meat unrefrigerated from 80s hooptie trunk karma man

    That's what I have...works great!

Just have to remember to take it off every now-and-again so it doesn't get stuck.

is this the point where we start discussing how easy it is to break into a house?

most houses are sided. many have only styrofoam behind the siding..
sliding doors lift up and off the tracks.
standard door jambs can be spread with any oem floor jack and a spacer like a cinder block...

the point of the hose clamp is to slow them down. i use the hose clamp because if they want it, i'd rather lose my tailgate and file an insurance claim for just the tailgate than need to file for body damage because they screwed up the rest of the truck.
