Thanks for the link! The pics will helped to identified the pipe.

Upon further inspection, It's just a 3" area of pipe that is different. It's covered in filth from over the years.

I think the old pipes been replace years ago. That one pipe, there probably was no replacement at that time.

Just did the screwdriver test. It looked shiny. When I look at the pipe from a distance the light was reflecting off the pipe. Definite shiny.

Isn’t the water department responsible for the line from the main to the meter, then you’re responsible from the meter to the house? That’s how it works here.

I'm responsible for anything on the property. City take care of street and sidewalk.

You may want to call and ask them about that.

edit: where is your meter located?

Basement. There's a wire that goes outside to a remote meter reader.

Anything before the meter a license/insured plumber has to work on it. If the main water supply has to be shut off a license plumber has to notified the water department for the sidewalk main valve to be shut off.

Colder climates. When I lived in the last place that had public water the meter was inside and a wire was run to a sensor on the outside.

When I lived in Mississippi the water meter was by the sidewalk in the yard.

False. I think it has to do with the preference of the city. The city we live in just replaced all of the meters and they are all out at the sidewalk, but buried and a remote sensor at surface level.

I still don't see why you couldn't swap the two end joists. If the second one in is fine, move that to the end then move the outer joist to where that one was and shim it accordingly. That way it'll be buried in your deck and look appropriate. Based on the photo, it looks like both those joists are the same length. You'll need to de-nail the stringers but they should be able to be reused. That way you wont have to go to the hardware store to get another piece of lumber. Is that not an option for you?

Very fun and challenging 2 day job. I really enjoy these custom, non-traditional type jobs. Wrapped up today. House was built in 1801. Original wood door at the bottom of the bulkhead was rotten beyond rotten. Nothing square, level or plumb in the stone opening. Dirt/Mud had accumulated along the bottom. Got that all cleaned up and added some crushed stone to the base (cedar 2x4's). Got lucky with the base as there was a level piece of old concrete under the mud/dirt. Used tapcons to secure it. Added crushed stone to facilitate drainage into the channel in the dirt floor basement. Framed/Shimmed up a new square opening using cedar 2x4's. New doors were framed with same cedar 2X4's, insulated and sheathed with 1/2" PT plywood on both sides. Then added some scribed boards to the outside so I could use spray foam insulation around the perimeter on the inside. Everything turned out plumb, level and square. Customer was very pleased.

I guess I’ve only shown you all the tub, so here’s the before and after photos since we are 99.9% done with this project. Took two bedrooms with a bath between them, and combined it to make it into a full master suite. I’m tired lol. Only things I didn’t do were drywall and the tile shower.
