I get it that sometimes things are damaged in shipping, but the box is not damaged, the part was well bubble wrapped with no signs of any kind of abuse. The courier will only cover lost, stolen, or if the box was damaged resulting in the part being damaged. Let's face it the dam thing was shipped from God knows where in Japan that chances are there is a far greater risk of shipping damage than the 4 hour flight to get to me. If it were a $50 part I wouldn't give a sh*t but $1500? Someone's gonna pay and it ain't gonna be me

Unfortunately, because it was handled by multiple people outside the dealerships network, and the box is undamaged, the burden is on you to prove it was damaged before it left the dealer. The dealer will say "how are we supposed to know you didn't break it by taking it out of the box, setting it on a table, and accidentally knocking it off?"
I mean, I guess you could blame your friend, actually more easily than the dealer but where would that get you.
You are right that someone is going to pay. However, you are wrong, it will be you. Either by fixing it, buying another, or buying another and returning the broken one. If you buy another, have the dealer ship it direct.
To answer the title, no, you were not scammed by Toyota. You had a run in with bad luck combined with not having your friend inspect the part before he shipped it out.
Instead of getting pissed at the world, realize that shit happens and fix it. I've received my share of broken parts, some custom. If I couldn't fix em, I got another.
Now, you know to have the orders inspected or shipped direct. If you can't handle that, then catch a plane and go get em yourself.
    Unsubbed.

Pretty simple to fix. Not worth the blood pressure you are throwing at it. Fix it an move on...

    That sucks.

I'd try super glue to hold it in place and then epoxy around the outside to seal and strengthen. Put your efforts to solving the problem, you've spent too much energy trying to make someone else pay.

If it was mine and there was no hope of returning it, i would try to clean up the hole and tap it for a small brass barbed fitting

I thought about that too. Couldn't find anything on McMaster when I looked quickly yesterday. Though I have no idea what the ID is either

Or give it a little melty-melty & stick/epoxy in a small double-ended barbed fitting. I know they got them pretty small, I have some I used as thru-tank fittings on weed whackers & blowers.

Are there emissions checks where you live? If not, I’d look into deleting the whole SAI system.

First, file through the insurance on the shipping. Second, dispute the charges on your credit card. Third, order a new one direct and return the broken one.

I think we upset the OP by pointing out that Toyota was not scamming him and was most likely not at fault.
