Talked one of the techs at work into throwing the steering rack in the DropBear last week.
Nice to have that done, really wasn't looking forward to it. Although we discovered Saturday
that if you need a steering rack mounting bolt because you had to cut one out........a
head bolt for a J35 Honda V6 engine is almost a perfectly sized substitute.

    I can't say I've never charged someone $62 for a spark plug.

Remember when ford made it so you have to practically pull the cab to change a spark plug? I'd charge more than that to change it.

That's just the part price... That's not the labor or the job

Oh I know, but I could see how things rack up. A coworker of mine got charged almost triple the price of a transmission adapter plate at the stealership, for 'shipping and handling' from their parts department and back because they grabbed the wrong one, test fit it, it didn't fit, and then walked it back and got the right one. He cussed them out, got his total bill halved and ended up taking the fixed car across the street and trading it in on a civic.

When parts orders the wrong thing, they're supposed to cover it. Not the customer.

Nah, that why I called it "Parts Psychiatry"

I usually make a determination on this within the first ten seconds I talk to someone.

Anyone who's had a 3rd or 4th gen F-Body knows that kinda pain.......

Oh, I know this. I felt I compensated my "tech" for the steering rack on DB pretty well, but we've got some techs that write "a novel"
and send them running and screaming....

True, but I've seen more that my share of "service morons" screwing something up and then try to blame it on
anybody other than themselves over the last two decades. Myself and a former coworker used try that but I've
got the the point if I fuck up, hey....I'm human.

Yup. Of course there are the times when you do own a job... And then find out later after fixing it off flat rate that it was the customer not telling you the whole story.

We've got two in right know, one has developed into a problem. The other has been an extended stay to say the least.

Had one two days ago with a customer kept trying to say we didn't do something right and I pretty much called her out on a BS. Had the car up on the lift and the undercarriage was completely destroyed including the oil pan smashed in by what look like concrete or a rock. Service advisor Took one look at it and told the customer they're paying for the job not us.

Yep, it happens. And more often than it should. Honda is/was way more forgiving than Toyota ever has been but it's getting amazing what people think
    should be covered under warranty.
