285/75R17 Perfect Size on 3rd Gen

Hello everyone, i just graduated from waiting for tacoma thread to owner of the new 2023 TRD OR Lunar Rock MY Tacoma. this is my first ever truck and never owned a automatic transmission. please help me to understand few things.

i would like keep my stock suspension, no plans to lift but i would like the pro wheels, so should i go with 16" tacoma pro wheels or 17 inch 4Runner? if i go with 17" should i buy new tires? i am thinking to keep the stock tyres, since its very good loocking goodyear wrangler AT 265/70/R16.

if to go with 16" inch pro wheels, what tyres should i go next time during tyre replacement? i am not much concrend about milage drop. please help to decide. i dont like to cut any parts of my truck.

Congrats! Glad you like the truck. The lunar rock color really changes depending on the lighting. This is probably the wrong thread for you as you don't seem to be in the market for these 34-ish inch tires which often don't fit unless you lift and/or cut pieces off of your truck.

It's up to you whether you go 16" or 17", mostly your personal preference based on looks. There are some minor differences if you're off-roading (tire sidewall ratio) and 17" seems to have a bit more options in tire sizes depending on the brand, but this is probably not an issue for you if you're not thinking of lifting and putting bigger tires on.

You'll get a lot of opinions and no clear answers if you ask 'which tire should I buy'. It depends on what you're using them for, what weather you'll be encountering, whether you intend on using your truck off-road, etc. There is a LOT of useful (and some useless) information in the forums to help answer your questions. The best advice I could give you is: be patient, make changes thoughtfully and slowly based on YOUR needs and not apparent needs of others.

I am also using 4.56 gears (2nd gen) it is worse than what it was with SL load rated 265/75/16's with the stock 3.73's. By how much? probably 2mpg maybe 3. It is what it is. There will always be a compromise. Just have to choose one. I wanted that tire size and a tire that I would not have to worry about getting sidewall damage hear in the desert. Maybe only one other tire that comes in that size that comes in a "C" load rating but it is shown to only be a about a pound lighter. And it might have been more suspectable to sidewall damage.

 

Speaking of pressure levels, what psi are you guys running on the road with this size?

I don't believe that is a Toyota wheel, just has the OEM Center cap. I have seen wheels that look like the Toyota wheel on tirerack.com and discounttire.com that have the same look of OEM but are not.

 

Hmm, actually I took thus screenshot from toyota website and it's the picture they show in their brochure.
