Trouble removing wheel

Almost feel dumb posting this, but kind of at a loss for wtf I'm not seeing...

I picked up some road debris in the side wall of my driver's side rear, on my 21 OR. I loosened the 6 lugs, jacked up the left rear, finished removing the 6 lugs... and the wheel won't come off. The truck has ~18k miles, and just had the tires rotated 3k miles ago via the Toyota care service. I was kicking the wheel hard enough I was worried about the truck sliding off the jack, I don't think it was just hanging on with rust and road grime.

What am I missing? Is there something else I'm not seeing attaching these wheels to these trucks?

 

I’d put the lug nuts back on loosened two turns. Put the truck in reverse, turn the wheel left hit the throttle then slam on the brakes to pop that Bitch

 

Its rust around the center part of the rim. Its a pain to get off sometimes

 

It's usually rust/corrosion (even after just a few weeks) that kinda 'welds' the wheel to the hub. It often helps to apply a generous coat of anti-seize or a good corrosion resistant grease on all contact surfaces between the hub & wheel.

 

Its rust and road grime - Google it for options

 

Dumb question, but the parking brake is released, yes?

 

Pretty common with aluminum wheels. My kicking days are past...

Usually you can get a 2x4 or a bar on the back side and pry against the rim and brake drum, if you use a bar tape up the end and be careful not to scratch the wheel.

Option 2 is to loosen the lug nuts a turn or two and drive slowly around the block, they will usually pop loose when taking a corner.

Wire brush the hub where the wheel mounts and also clean up the wheel. Apply a skim of anti-seize or grease to all surfaces to prevent future issues.

 

Is the tire still drivable? If so Id take it back to the dealer and have them take the tire off. If the tire is flat, use a sledge hammer on the inside of the tire.

 

Make sure you are kicking the tire as far away from the hub as possible. I always had the best luck by kicking the top, or using a dead blow or sledge. Please chock the wheels and put it on jack stands...

 

Jack it up, loosed the lug nuts about 3 threads, back up to the tire and mule kick the rubber part a few times, it will break loose after a few kicks

 

You can try loosening lug nuts to snug no real torque, drive it around the block slowly couple of turns at slow speed. That should do it.

 

You can also loosen lugs a few turns. Set truck back down on ground, shake truck side to side. This will pop wheel loose.

 

It's totaled, better trade it in

He's trying to remove the wheel/tire, not the brake drum.

 

Take the lug nuts off, smack the tire in various outer spots with a large dead blow hammer.

 

Yup, let the truck do the work. Usually when lugs are loosened, and once the wheel hits the ground it should pop loose pretty quick, like right away.

I’ve had success with this method as well. Scares me less than driving on it.
