We did some drag races with my truck and my buddies on an old dry dam road. Even if i gave him a truck length start. I could pass him every time....same for roll-on's. I'd just pull away. It drove him crazy. His truck had some weird vibrations to that i didn't have. That was strange as his dealer said his trim was common for that, there was nothing wrong with his truck.

I just received the group text. MT here too checking in. Wouldn't be in a Tacoma if it wasn't an option. No one I know can drive it other than me.

Thanks. I sort of stumbled across this color as it is not very common where I live. I had Inferno before this but some clown in a box truck turned into me and wrote it off. I really wanted Voodoo blue or Cement Grey. They had this Barcelona Red one on the lot that I eventually settled for as finding the color I wanted in Manual was near impossible as this was into Covid. It was quite dusty sitting under a dark hail tent, so I did not even really look at it. One day leaving work I passed one that was nice and clean and in the sunlight. I was quite taken back by the color, so I called the salesman back and told him I would take it! :D

Yep, mine too. I don't know what exactly happens, but if I hold second gear to 4500 RPM and then start hitting gears the damn truck flies. Maybe it switches to DI only?
It's fun as hell whatever is going on in there.

That’s the variable valve timing kicking in. Same thing Honda called VTEC back in the day.

VTEC had a secondary larger cam lobe it would activate. So it not only changed cam timing but also lift. Ours only does timing.

Oh didn’t realize that. VTEC must really have some lunch then. Leave it to Toyota to only give us half of what we want :annoyed:

I have all this traction bs turned off. I just stomp on it in the D mode, truck will squeal the tires loudly, and instantly go past 5k on the tach. It would smoke my old v8 4.7 245 hp tundra. This engine must be a rocket in a camry, or lexus.

The slipping "gear reduction" doesn't add any more torque to the wheels though, right?

Haha! Yeah she does. It's been many several years though. If my dumb ass falls and breaks myself or something silly, she will be able to dump me off at the bottom of the hill and leave me. She's much smarter and nicer than she. Surprised we celebrated 5 years on Sunday.

I have been married for like 300 years. In that time I have had 3 manual S10's in a row and a manual 2013 ferd focus. We're talking 20+ years of manual trucks and a car and my wife never learned to drive one of them. Last summer when I was waiting for my Tacoma I offered one last time to show her how to drive the focus before I sold it. It was a buttery smooth, perfectly worn in 5 speed.

I said this is your last chance, you're not smoking the clutch in a brand new 40+ thousand dollar truck. Nope, no time for that. Sure enough the Tacoma comes in and everybody is fawning over it and now she wants to drive it too.

    Sorry, ain't happening.

Honda interceptor, nice bike! My last Honda was a V65 Sabre, I spent 3 summers on it then sold it before it killed me.

I picked up a TRD Sport access cab w/6 speed MT in October. After making a query on ordering a 2023 they responded with " We have this truck being delivered and it is not claimed yet." It had everything I was looking for except the MT, so I put down a deposit because new trucks are very hard to find around here! At first I wasn't too keen on the MT and after getting the vehicle, even less so because it is very slow from the take off. To remedy this I ended up going with a Pedal Commander and man O' man it is a different truck all together. I like it a lot now and to be honest it took a while to get used to this clutch and shift pattern, It has been 20 years since I drove a clutch (F150 300-6). Still not to keen on the clutch and may do the accumulator delete when it get warm out again. I did put new wheels and tires on for winter, went with 16" rims and 265/75R16 T/A KO2 and got an inch higher there with no rubbing. All in all after driving it for two months now in the snow and ice now, I am very happy with it and don't think anyone could go wrong with the MT choice, especially if they are going to discontinue it. Just my 2 cents worth.

Yeah, the F-150 4.9 I6 rocks, my son and I have a 1995 single cab/8' bed F-150 4x4 with the 4.9 and a 5MT, that thing just did a Denver to New Hampshire trip and didn't even use a full quart of oil in spite of the 200,000+ miles on the clock. We replaced the gaskets for the oil, lifter cover, and valve cover, all of which were leaking; my bet it will be able to go way past our normal 5,000 mile oil change interval without using a full quart, if any at all.

Oh Yeah, I miss that old truck. I rolled it on Valentines evening 1994. Came over a hill and the road was deep drifted across, turned me sideways on the ice. I wish they still made trucks like that. Simple to work on great running, good looking truck. My favorite vehicle that I have owned. Semper Fi!

What does the pedal commander do? I'm going to have to look that up real quick, but also wanted to see what it does from someone that has recently installed it.
