It's all about emissions, the new highlander with the 2.4 turbo has about the same fuel economy as the v6, but produces less emissions.

I'm sure the new trail hunter trim will be if it makes it to production on the tacoma.

Well to be honest I’m not overly concerned about mpg. Could I use more? Sure. Is it a deal breaker? No. The 2.4 turbo highlander reviewed really well and seems like a decent powertrain. If the new Tacoma is a refined evolution of the current gen I would be extremely happy. I love my 2017 but am really stoked for a new one.

I'd say the entire Tacoma lineup will have a pretty steep price increase, the Pro probably will see 60K.

Idk, the R4P is rated for 2500 and it was pretty easy pulling a smaller trailer on mine, torque-wise. (I pulled the flatbed for the our veterans day parade)

It's come a long way for sure but seeing the recent real world performance of the electric trucks & battery packs even in medium duty tasks is not too promising IMO. I think we are still a generation away. Big question.... can Toyota reach 30 MPG highway with their new "hybrid" power train Taco!?

    I think they may get close......I bet 28 MPG!:smokertransformer:

30MPgs for sure with an aftermarket intake and throttle body spacer.

The current tundra was bumped up 5 mpg with the V6 Turbo over the naturally aspirated 5.7 V8 so if the Tacoma follows suit, a 4 cyl Turbo could be 5 mpg above the V6 which would be 27/28 highway.

It wouldnt make sense to have a new Tacoma with the same mpg ratings as the new Tundra. The ratings are same now with the current generation

A 30 MPG or even close Taco with naturally aspirated or turbo'd with Granny electric motor helper will be sweet.
Toyota is the company to trust to do it as well.
Can't wait for official EPA results when it arrives.

Well, if we look at the new 2023 tundra trd pro, it starts at 68,520. On Toyota's website, I can only go as far back as 2022 which was when the new gen started.

So a simple google search of a 2021 tundra trd pro v8 starts at 49,225. So about a 20k increase, you have to remember the new tundra only has the iforce max hybrid powertrain.

Let's look at the tacoma trd pro, which a 2023 model starts at 46,685 which I believe is for the manual. So if I was a betting man I would say the next gen Tacoma trd pro (most likely a hybrid max powertrain only as well) would be about 66,000 which would be about a 20k increase.

I don't expect the mpg ratings to change that much on the new tacoma, but it will produce less emissions which is what they are worried about.

Look at the highlander, the mpg ratings didn't change much from the v6 to the 4 turbo. And the tacoma will get less mpg compared to the highlander. It's a truck with the aerodynamics of a brick.

I expect to see a very minimal difference compared to the tundra, maybe like 2 or 3 mpg difference.

The fact that some of you are clamoring for a hybrid and/or a turbo’d 4 banger solidifies the Tacoma is destined for the graveyard.

Not even close. Toyota themselves wouldn’t have chosen a hybrid or necessarily a turbo 4 but due to the government telling them what they need to do from a “green” standpoint this is the direction. Toyota is doing it better than any other manufacturer too.

On another note, does anyone know if the next gen Tacoma will debut around February or when we can plan to see it?

Whatever they do, I hope they do a better job building the 4th gen Taco than they have the 3rd Gen Tundra....

They are still selling thousand of trucks and every single one that comes with a manual. The new GM twins don’t even a extended cab long bed option anymore, where is the justification for that decision?

Are these engines really making the air any cleaner. Can anyone tell a difference in the air they breath or will be able to say they lived a little while longer? I think it is pointless.
