Hello! Im new here and im seriously looking at buying an 06 tacoma trd sport 4x4 with the 4L v6 paired with a 6spd manual, im coming from a 05 subaru forester xt, what should i look out for? Or should i stay away? It has just under 240k kilometers or 149k miles (for you Americans).

Thank you for your time and insight and hopefully this works out for me!!
P.S im from Canada so thanks eh?

I think you’ll need to post a few more pics/details. How’s the undercarriage, engine, etc

The truck has been sitting there for alil bit, so surface rust has developed on the drive shaft and rear end, frame looks ok apparently was replaced and kinda looks like it, i didn't see any leaks or anything from the engine, will know more tomorrow, if it runs and drives half as good as it looks ill probably buy it!!20221122_172712.jpg 20221122_172720.jpg

That exhaust reroute looks bad, For Texas standards I would run away from that frame. I know its way different in Canada, as long as if doesn't have cancer rust It would be ok. The milage wouldn't scare me at all.

Get it on a lift with an independent mechanic... maybe 150 bucks, but could save you $$$ if you discover something that'll help you negotiate the price down.

That rust would worry me but like other posters I'm from Texas. My local dealer told me they have Canadians that will buy a Texas Tacoma online, fly down and drive it home. Good luck.

Where I'm from maybe most Tacoma (and other truck) frames will look like that at that age. My '07 has frame rust. That '06 you're considering is nice! And the fact that it's a manual transmission, I'd go for it.

If the price is right, that truck is fine, it needs some attention, but it's in the middle of it's life span. Basically all stock , depending on the price, yes.

My first taco was an 06 dcsb sport manual. The trans was disappointing. The 3rd gear synchro was gone by 75k, they had throw out bearing issues, and the 1-2 rpm drop was huge. Never had a head gasket or engine mount issue. Sold it around 92k for my '16. That trans turned me off to getting another manual Tacoma. The frame has the recall coating done but eventually rotted through anyway, and it looked better then this trucks frame, for what that's worth.

TLDR- I'd only get an auto second gen if I could do it again.

If you were the only owner and knew the truck’s history, 150k is just breaking in. But a used truck with 150k, run away.

I agree with this...Do you know if the owner(s) did all the required maintenance? What kind of drivers were they.
