All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
I have a few trucks, and this one is growing on me. Definitely go test drive one before you make your choice, might be a good option coming out of your taco.

That sounds like a good price. Considering you build a 23 F150 STX 3.5 FX4 black appearance package for a MSRP of 55k

Don’t listen to the trolls, I’ve had my GMC for 70 thousand trouble free miles. Just one wheel has more capability then the Tacoma, gets shitty fuel mileage, can tow a house, literally. I love my full sized truck, super comfortable, and looks great.

I think it's the cylinder deactivation that can cause lifter issues. I have never looked into the complaint. I'd stay away from GM and Ram trucks with cylinder deactivation.

There may never be any issues with either engine.

It is the cylinder deactivation, and auto stop at lights. Theses are the things that fail. I do have a 3/4 ton, so my truck doesn’t have that crap on it. You can deactivate those systems on the 1/2 ton.

I had a Silverado with the 3.0 diesel and it was a beast. I’d recommend that motor 10 times out of 10. You have to consider slightly higher maintenance costs but the torque is way better. I averaged 25 mpg in a truck which I found insane for how big it is. The new interior refresh is amazing and Trail Bosses around here are the most popular trim. market is still inflated so used are still fetching new truck prices.

Pricing is actually coming down as well. I found new 22’s for $6,000+ off MSRP. Glacier Blue is very nice!

There’s no comparison between the Tacoma and the domestic full size when it comes to comfort and power.

I just traded a 2011 GMC 1500 for a 2022 Tacoma double cab. My pickup was starting to show signs of the the lifter issues mentioned earlier. I'm pretty sure you can buy a programmer that will allow you to eliminate the cylinder deactivation and lock it at 8 cylinders. I do miss the extra cab space but we don't tow or haul anything that the taco can't handle. I will say getting around town in the Tacoma feels as easy as a car compares to the full size.

That's what I like about the 3/4 tons no deactivation. I'd rather avoid the cylinder deactivation altogether given the choice, and I believe they all can be deactivated.

    I don't like auto start/stop either.

Thats one if the main reasons we went with a Tacoma. None of the auto start/stop nonsense. The dealership we bought it at also sells Ford. They mentioned that due to the chip shortage some of the f150s that come in don't have that installed on them.

I'd take a 1500 regular cab short bed 4x4 for $6,000 off. It would have to be the 2.7t I think that's the only engine GM puts in the short bed. Not big on the turbo though.

Those are rare so that isn't going to happen.

If you need a bigger truck, you need a bigger truck. As much as I like my 07 Tacoma there are things it can't do that my 2014 F150 can. The Ford is far more comfortable, quieter, more powerful, has way more interior room, tows more, and hauls more. And gets 1 mpg worse fuel mileage.

But the old Tacoma has 230,000 trouble free miles on it, and I expect a lot more. It is smaller and I like driving it off road better due to the size. I don't expect to get that many miles on the Ford without spending some money. But there are times when I need a bigger truck.

Yeah some of the Fords are missing it F-150s and Rangers. Some of the SuperDuties are missing the WiFi. I'd rather not have any of that on a truck.

Wifi is good for updates and navigation. I don't think the SD I'd buy even has navigation.

Isn't all research provided by random people? No matter whether it is presented on the internet, in print or pamphlet, by dealers, or even in owner group forums? Consumer reports is a good source too from what I've found.

OP, I would never buy an overpriced Chevy Truck. I've owned a few Chevys from boring chevettes lol remember that one, to late model corvettes, and they were always breaking and needing repairs. I just got tired of fixing them so frequently on my dime. I think Toyota offers a little more reliability, a big plus to me for transportation.

    Consumer Reports wat?

The worst part about researching trucks is looking at the interest rates.:jpow:

I’d go this route with a RCSB. Find some bumpers off an Elevation and looks great.

That’s true. If you want/need a larger truck, then go for it. But we all know that comparing GM 1500 series trucks to Toyota for reliability is ridiculous. I came from an F-350 6.7 diesel. That truck was huge inside and out, and could tow anything. But I didn’t need it.

The side profile of the GMC does look better than the Chevy, and it has LED headlights. I'd just opt for the black work truck bumpers. The Elevation bumpers do look great.

I plan to keep my Tacoma as my daily and may add an OBS Ford or Tundra as a full size beater.

I went from a Tacoma, to a brand new tundra, to a brand new f150, and am now back in a ‘23 Tacoma. I experienced what I thought I needed the last couple years. Big power, big tow capability, shit mpg, the inability to hit the trails, not to mention big price tag. So much more at peace/comfort now being back in a super reliable rig that I know will start everytime I get in it.

your money tho :) spend it how u want
