I went out to the garage yesterday and heard a humming sound coming from the back of my Taco. I thought it was my fuel pump running so I inserted the key and started the truck. after a few minutes I shut it off and the humming noise was gone. I started the truck and did my errands. I parked the truck and listened for the noise coming from the fuel tank and I heard none. Checked again this morning and there was no noise from the fuel pump.

Now, thinking back to yesterday I did not notice any humming noise coming from the truck in the morning.

What would have caused the pump to run when the truck was off and there was no key in the ignition?

It's normal, the truck does an evap canister check a few hours after you shut it down.
