Good Morning Folks. Hope all had a great Thanlsgiving and a good Black Friday.
We had our Turkey yesterday because it wasn't quite ready to bake on Thursday. All is good because we had a good meal on Friday.
My son, DIL, wife and I went to see the movie "Devotion". Excellent movie. On the way home my son hit a deer, no major damage to his truck but the doe was hurt bad. He shot her and put her down and was feeling it all day yesterday. Other than that, I got my annual supply of underwear as well as a Visio sound bar for the TV at WallyWorld :D:thumbsup:.
Hope the rest of the weekend is good for all.

Congratulations on 48 years! We'll be hitting our 29th in January (we didn't meet until we were both 35).

Which soundbar did you get? I think I'm going to get a vizeo to go with our new tv.

Went to WallyWorld and looked at the sound bars. Didn't want to spend a fortune so I looked them over and they had the Vizio on sale.

They had the Vizio M series for $269 but didn't feel the need to spend that much. I won't be connecting it until Monday as we are upstate and won't be home until late Sunday. I'll let you know how it works out.

:pccoffee::rain: Good Morning Porch Pals & Sue! The rain is over! After promising stormy rain all Thursday and Friday, we were finally entitled to 1.53" of rumbly rain overnight. Even had the fastest Severe Storm Warning I have ever seen - lasted 15 minutes! By the time I got done making coffee for the morning, I got radar on the phone, and it was all passed up. Stayed on I-35 anyway. The sun is out, and it will be a beautiful 60*! Going to finish the tree (uncooperative lights yesterday), watch the rest of the season ending rivalry games, and make burgers. Outdoor lights tomorrow.

Big time congratulations @Devious6 Mark & Lynn! 48 is great!

What does a soundbar do that the TV doesn't?

No, very few TV's actually come with anything resembling quality speakers. Most are tiny, flat, and behind the frame. Sound bars are the same as putting a real stereo in your vehicle, or the difference between a "transistor radio" and your home stereo.

Huh... I guess I got lucky. I replaced a twenty year old TV in the last week and ordered something on line, so with no experience of the unit's sound quality, and the sound is fine. I have perfect pitch, so am familiar with sound quality issues. I often see these things as just one more marketing scam to empty people's wallets. Usually they are concentrating on volume in sound ranges where people are more likely to have hearing problems than any real quality. But I could be wrong. I'm not interested enough to spend extra money when I'm satisfied with what I already have though.

Very well put Kurt. As my wife has gotten older(even though she won't admit it) her hearing isn't as sharp,as it used to be. With the volume up on the TV the speakers have a tendency to distort the sound. Hopefully with the sound bar it will help keep the volume down. My hearing aids are adjustable so it will also help me so I won't have to adjust them. I'll post how they work out when I set it up.

I really used to think after I got my hearing aids, that sound quality was a thing of the past. Now, my newer ones are better than ever, but the difference when I redid the truck was astounding. Don't ever think hearing aids are a limit to how well you can hear what you want!
Both main TV are run though the multi-media-stereos in each room (sunroom got the old stuff), and they have subs. (You get to know which shows and commercials feature annoying "urgent bass" lines!). The little dining room is through a set of decent USB computer speakers, because that is all there is room for. It's just better all around that way compared to the speaker only. No argument with @Travlr , if you hear well, you do. (TV speaker won't ever give you low end though!)

My first hearing aids were expensive amplifiers (7 years ago) but my new ones are really good. Sound is amazing and with options for adjusting them makes them more usable in different situations. But they still don't replace original hearing. I use headphones in the morning when the wife is still sleeping and they work well without the hearing aids. Technology can be a wonderful thing:D.

Yeah part of the reason I need a soundbar is I have a substantial hearing loss. Hearing aids are going to be needed real soon. In the mean time I just turn everything up. I can't hear any of the alert chimes in my taco. I can't hear the birds singing anymore. If your not facing me when you talk to me I don't hear you. It sucks! Hopefully this year I can afford hearing aids.
