Jupiter has been parked in the SE sky late evening for the last few weeks. I can see it right through my bedroom window when going to sleep

I started with a Celestron Nexstar 8. I have a small Williams Optics RC71 with a camera. It's on a EQ-6 mount and run by an ASIAir Pro. I'm somewhat limited by the trees so try and get out camping. What got me interested was using a small tracker and my dSLR.

Taken with my iphone. Just getting back to some astronomy after being away for many years... This is nothing like some of the other fantastic pictures in this thread though. Taken with my iphone, ~500 images then processed in StarStax. I also made a time lapse video but it's too large to post here due to file size limit. Star-trail-11-22-22.jpg

That's sick! Did you just set it as a timer for time over a night?

I have an app that lets me take photos at a defined interval. The total shoot time was 2 hours with the bulb function (indefinite time duration).

You can search the app store for Timelapse apps. There are a number of free ones.

    In.

On the last camping trip we stopped by McDonald Observatory. As fun as that was, the gift shop damn near got me in trouble. I passed up all the telescopes (all at very tempting prices, which is to say sightly under a grand,) and let myself get talked into a decent pair of binoculars. On a good night with those you can see at least six of Jupiter's moons and Saturn's rings, they said.

    :spending:

Never saw Saturn's rings. Managed to see four moons at a time, maybe five. Also, the Taurids were in show.

    ... Worth it.

Also, there's an 11 meter mirror in this picture. Talk about an optic. :cookiemonster:

Sure! The app I used was NightCap (https://www.nightcapcamera.com). There are two options I've used.

1- Meteor Mode: this allowed me to get many photos over a period of time. I used that option so that I could get a large number of photos as my desired end result was to generate a time lapse video of the star trails.

2- Star trails mode: with this option all you basically have to do is to decide on the look of the star trail you want. If you center on Polaris you'll get concentric circles if your exposure is long enough. You then get 1 photo of the generated star trail.

I hope this brief description helps!
