From a life long Californian, the best thing currently about visiting Los Angeles is to remind you what you don't want your City or State to become. San Diego is much nicer and as well some of the coastal cities above LA. (Skip S.F.)

Is Toyota ever going to build this thing? It's like Toyota just wants to continue selling 3rd gens. GMs new midsize will be at dealerships in a few months. Not sure how long it will take Ford to get the 24 Rangers out.

It took Toyota 10 years to put a 3.5TT into the tundra .. ford has been using that for a decade now. It’s the “Toyota” way

I'm tired of waiting I want to be disappointed now.

Nothing on the new Hilux either I would think that the Hilux would make an appearance first. The market for Hilux is much bigger than Tacoma.

They are quite similar as of late minus the engines and the fuglier styling on the hilux

Yep and got burned by it too in Ford's version. Won't buy another of theirs. Toyota's has waste gate issues in the early trucks which is built into the turbocharger which means turbocharger replacement on failure. Guess it's better than cam phasor failure but still not easy to fix.

We’ll just look at the past. Toyota takes about 10 years to make a new product. 1st gen Tacoma was about 10 years? 2nd gen lasted 10 years.
Same thing with 4Runner. The 5th gen model has been out for 12-13 years. Tundra was the same for 14-15 years?

I get it though. Why would Toyota change something when it’s selling like crazy? They have to spend less money on R&D and make more profit.

    A few.
I have to wonder what the number of years a redesign is based on. They seem to change the Camry and Corolla pretty often

Tacoma sales are way down compared to last year. November sales aren't in yet and there is still all of December, but right now Toyota is at 2015 numbers.

My bet is the sales are way down because of supply chain shortages; there are very few Tacomas on dealership lots anywhere in the country. In my case, I had to get in line for mine; it took almost exactly eight months from deposit to delivery.

Supply chain issues due have an impact but sales are still down. There are plenty of 1-2 year old Tacomas on the lot if people really wanted a new Tacoma that badly. There is also alot of people in 1-3 year old Tacomas who have no interest in buying a new one.

4Runner and Tundra sales are also down, and so are truck sales across the board for all manufacturers.

I have seen at least two local Toyota dealerships change names. Presumably those have both been sold to another dealership.

You missed my point entirely. For 2022 there has been decidedly more demand for NEW Tacomas than supply. If you want some evidence, look no further than the 15,000+ posts in this thread:

What good is demand with out the supply? Sales are down, people are not putting deposits on new Tacomas like they were in 21. Toyota isn't going to build as many trucks.

Toyota is committed to the 4th gen just like they were with the new Tundra, which isn't selling as well either.

I'm sure Toyota can squeeze out a few more years with the 3rd gen if they want to but they aren't going to see 21 sales numbers again, and I doubt they will with the 4th gen.

Supply chain issues, economy, fuel prices, lack of intrest in the product. I don't think why? Is important. It's the fact that sales are down is what matters.

Can confirm in my area with a specific dealer visit a week ago. Very few new cars on lot, no Tacos at all. This dealer has turned to car rentals to generate income. Car rental kiosk now occupies primo space and is front and center with several people attached to its operation. What's next, switching to car washes? Rock climbing? Fitness center? Tractor pulls?

What does a dealership do with the real estate that use to hold their inventory? What does the landlord do with the warehouse space that use to host an Amazon DSP?

I don't think the cars or the boxes are coming back.

Not sure if we disagree? Both supply and demand are down. Just observing what dealerships are doing to survive and brainstorming what is next. I wouldn't want to be in that biz right now. Margin for error is small.

Can't be a good time to be in that business. If you own a dealership and you have all that space do you start selling it off?

Who buys it? What can they build there? Not many new retail businesses looking to build. I wouldn't think building housing in that space would be to appealing to buyers.

The Lexus dealership closest to me just remodeled, I can't recall if the work is complete yet. I guess they got a better loan this year than they would next year.

My local Toyota Dealer is adding a new building and says coming soon Dodge and Ram. Wonder if they are not getting enough new Toyota's and Honda's and have to add Dodge to supplement.
