Well looks like its time to replace cv axles again. I have a torn boot. Anyone have experience replacing just the boots? How difficult is it? Who offers good deals on oem axles? I used cvj last time.

It can get messy, but not hard at all. Get the c clip pliers and get after It. Lots of rags to wipe the grease. Maybe a large cardboard to lay down

Might give it a try. New axles are going to be pricey

It's super easy. Just get a big box of rags to clean things up with. Besides c-clip pliers you'll also need pinch style boot clamps and pinch pliers.

https://www.offroadsolutions.com/products/high-angle-inner-cv-boot/ I used these when I tore my inner boots.

Ya i had cvj install those on my axles when I ordered them. They are still in good shape but my outer is torn. Maybe I'll just do them all, inner and outer, so I don't have to worry about them for a while.

So, I need some advice if anyone feels up to it. I’m (hopefully) going to be taking a longer excursion with a friend in my truck. For those in the know, I sleep in the bed. Call me crazy but I really don’t feel like spooning with my buddy, so I’m considering buying a RTT for this trip. Does anyone have any suggestions/advice on what to get, how to mount it to the camper shell, or any other things I may not be thinking. Not sure if I’ll wind up keeping the RTT for a while or just using it for this run, so if it had a decent resale value, that’d be a plus. Thanks in advance

before anyone says it, I know, I know. Drifter. Probably not for a couple years. Still gotta build the heep

Keep your truck the way it is. Have your buddy pack a small tent or bivi sack. Unless your buddy is a hot chick. Then spoon away.

We’re planning a Mojave or DV trip and I’m not sure how ground camping would go…

I spent a lot of days sleeping in the desert in just a sleeping bag under the stars. With a tent, thermal rest and decent sleeping bag it should be just fine. If it's windy, set the tent up on the leeward side of your truck.

I guess I’ll buy one of those Coleman instant tents and bring my backpacking pads and a sleeping bag

A cot is great when sleeping without a tent. Keeps the ants from sleeping with you…

Call me what you will, but I’m not into sleeping without a tent. I know in all reality it doesn’t provide the most protection, but it makes me feel better

Why don't you make your buddy do this, then you can sleep in your truck like normal? I love my RTT, but unless you're going after one of the big 4+ person tents, it's still going to be very cozy in a normal/small (50 something inch wide) RTT. Fine with a female and a pup, but I would venture real tight with a buddy whom you won't be quite so cuddled up to like the aforementioned female. ;)

    It’s not so bad.

Maybe cold in the winter but I prefer it on the summer. Quite liberating really.
