I had the same truck in the commercial. My wife, daughter and son all learned to drive a cutch in it. Sold it in 2004 (187k) and the guy is still driving it today.

I remember the new VW bug one where they spun around like UFOs “reversed engineered from UFOs” and also the Neon “Hi” series myself. Roughly the same vintage as your memories, I think.

I wish I could say the 3.slow headgasket failure is just some made up fairy tale. But it's not, I am doing one in the shop right now. It's a lot of work and a shitty job.

My father has one just sitting in his driveway that he just uses as a garbage truck.

105k. Also, someone has already done headgaskets on this truck, at least once.

The Truck in the commercial is an '89 or '90 SR5 Xtra Cab 4x4, going by the side stripes, and the lack of a cab top brake light. The wheels shown are the premium alloys - 15" by 7 or 8. I ran 265 tires on mine, and had similar clearance, and it also corrected the speedo from being a few mph off on the factory tire size.

My dad drove 1st gen tacomas for years which led me to buying one. But he never handed it off to for free - lol.
