    Ohio gun opener today - finally got to see a deer....a neighbor bumped a medium sized buck on the adjacent property while it was raining. I was watching a different direction and with my hood up just caught a glimpse of it running full bore off to my right and going behind me. By the time I stood up and got my pistol (357 mag) on the buck there were houses in the line of fire beyond the buck, IF I were to miss. So, I didn't shoot as that was the safe/ethical thing to do. Looked to be a 6-8 point, but with a non-scoped pistol, anything is a trophy. Only deer I saw today.

    so..i get to hunt on a very small edge of the woods, on a good size tract of woods, with farms all round. so, i have to set my 2 stands, where i can. so my stand is basically 50 yrds from the property line, and 20 yrds off of the parking lot of the business. pass thru deer. so i gotta take what i can. last years 10 with my bow..

    this am's shotgun deer. i know, it's little, but in the 53 years i have been hunting, this is the 1st that i have been able to grunt in. he was 80 yrds deep into the other property, heading away from me, took about 18 minutes to bring him legal, had to shoot thru low hanging holly branches, but, a moment in time, that i will never forget. It's those damn 1st's !!!

    Taking 3 hind quarters to our butcher tomorrow for jerky. He has a bad ass recipe that is not too hot but the more you eat it crepes up. Gave my Dad a hind quarter for steaks and stew meat plus part of loin. Both Dad and my Boy sent pictures they cooked some off today. Everyone happy. I just want to grill the heart steaks but still have it in my lungs, did work my full shift today. Maybe tomorrow...
