Are you talking about short periods of time when the engine output will be augmented with battery output? i.e. the hybrid will be a performance hybrid and not an efficiency hybrid?

The 2gr-fks used in the tacoma is a variation of the 2gr-fse. The 2fr fks is used in many other toyota and lexus vehicles besides the tacoma...so it's not like they developed an engine specifically for the tacoma, they did tune it for the tacoma.

I'm not exactly sure how the hybrid will be set up, I'm guessing it will be similar to how the tundra is. There is a video that explains how it works more in depth. Here is is. It's a long video. If you start at the 17 minute mark, that's where he talks about how it works.

There is less demand for vehicles in 2022 than there was in 2021.

Contact Toyota Motor Corporation North America, and ask them.

Go gaslight some else. You sound like a child throwing temper tantrum.

I heard the same thing about the Tundra's turbo engine right up till the time the turbo's started to fail and cabs were coming off...

They did not develop that engine just for the Tacoma. They have been building the 2GR 3.5 since 2004

I haven't heard about the cabs coming off...but here's s link on the wastegate issues. Too long, didn't read - Toyota concluded that there were quality control issues with the turbocharger wastegate actuators it had sourced from other manufacturers. Toyota not only sourced replacement parts, but found a new manufacturer for the wastegates in all Tundra turbochargers going forward. Toyota is fixing it for free.

That's why I don't buy a first year model of new generation.

The manual calls for the cab to come off to reach the turbo...Some dealers are using different methods, but once they are not under warranty you can bet they will be charging you for the cab removal.....the roll out of that truck is a Sh#$$T show..and I hope that is not what is to come with the 4 runner and Tacoma.

Hopefully the issues are more about the San Antonio factory than overall issue, so maybe with the 4runner in Japan and Tacoma in Mexico some of that will be avoided.

Nothing new there stud. Every single motor Toyota has ever produced has had issues in it's first production run in a vehicle - just ask all of the 2016 & 2005 Tacoma owners haha

That aside, it'll be interesting to see how the 2.4L turbo 4 banger (T24A-FTS) performs in a truck application.

No they didn't. The 2GR-FKS was originally developed for Lexus vehicles and was handed down to the Tacoma to meet EPA emissions standards. The 2GR-FKS is a derivation of the 2GR-FE motor used for years in Rav4's, Avalons, Camrys, etc.

Bit of history here for you - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_GR_engine#2GR

I was a 2016 Tacoma owner and it performed like a champ, I only traded it for a 2020 the week covid was shutting down the country because the dealers at that time were running scared and I knew I could get a screaming deal...(did the same thing with a tractor).

Lexus has made the RX grille smaller that looks much better.

Think about when the 3rd gen first came out. Everyone hated it and then it grew on people, but toyota did update it a few times.

Part of me thinks that they make it ugly on purpose when a new gen gets released just so they have things to update or give it a facelift through its generation.

On a side note, I came across this website that shows different toyota engines with specifications of each one and I thought this was interesting.

    5vz-fe 3.4 v6 in 1st gen tacoma.
    Engine lifespan: 400000 km.

    1gr-fe 4.0 v6 in 2nd gen tacoma.
    Engine lifespan: 500000 km.

    2gr-fks 3.5 v6 in 3rd gen tacoma.
    Engine lifespan: 300000 km.

    T24a-fts 2.4t i4 in *possibly 4th gen tacoma.
    Engine lifespan: 250000 km.

Take that for what it's worth. I thought it was interesting.

Source (just type in engine code, here's 2.4)

    https://mymotorlist.com/engines/toyota/t24a-fts/

    EDIT:
22r-te 2.4t i4 in hilux aka toyota pickup
    Engine lifespan: 420000 km.

So they built the 3.5 to not even have a lifespan of 200K...interesting
