I'm finally back. I think. After a long, very drawn out series of events I'm back at it. @koditten was kind enough to send me some magnets for the flywheel on my 23hp Kawasaki powered Ferris IS1000Z. She's an oldie but a good one. I promised I'd post a video of it running, my apologies for this being so short but I have no idea what happened to the longer video I took. Weird.

Backstory since this thread moves fast:

Around late July I was mowing at dusk, pulled a turn and saw a cloud of oil smoke. I shut the mower down. Used my loader to move it closer to the house so I could work on it easily. After some investigation, it seems that the upper crank seal had basically nothing left to it. I finally found the correct seal, replaced it, got it running again. I mowed a tiny section where the tent was going to be for my kid's first birthday party, backed down the slope off my "patio" area and the mower stopped dead. I thought for sure that I'd locked up the motor. Pulled it back apart and found that a magnet let go from the flywheel and jammed up in the stator. Cool. Ordered a new stator (mine was shorted), and posted in here about it. @koditten was kind enough to send me some magnets to try for the flywheel. I found one that worked, epoxied it in, off to the races!

I get half way through the shakedown run of mowing my back yard which was WILDLY overgrown at this point, the mower shut down as if I turned off the key. WTF!? No grinding, no squealing, nothing. Just like it lost power altogether. Weird.

Pulled it back apart, both coils died at the exact same time- my guess? Oil soaked and fried them? Very weird. Zero spark. Ordered some cheap eBay coils, slapped them on, fired it up. Shakedown run. Ten minutes in, grinding sound. Shut the mower down. Pull everything back apart.

Likely from all the oil from that seal, several of the 10mm bolts backed out and one was starting to contact the flywheel.

Pull the flywheel, pull the bolts, clean out the threads, loctite, reassemble.

This video is super short, and it's from before the loose bolt issue, but I did mow my entire yard at night in 28* weather because the mower ran and I was afraid to shut it down.

Thanks again to Kurt for sending me those magnets, and if anyone finds themselves in this predicament and needs some Kohler or Kawasaki flywheel magnets to try, send me a PM and I'll ship them your way.

I put it on and was expecting it to look a lot more "flush" then I realized I don't have the plastic bed rail caps. I'm happyish with it, did take a month to get.

Sorry for the delayed response… The answer is that both are acceptable. There is ZERO specification for a requirement or standard. However Unions typically teach A is correct. Which means Hospitals, Venues, etc will have A. Others typically have B. If you have A, chances are a union electrician did the work!

That last pic is amazing! How you were able to snap it when the rotors where perfect right angles to the body, I'll never know.
