When the 3rd gen first came out I wasn't a fan, now it's my favorite looking tacoma.

The interesting thing is the 2.4 turbo 22r-te in the hilux had a life expectancy of 420000km.

The 2.4 turbo that's possibly going into the next gen Tacoma is 250000km.

So the newest tacoma has the lowest life expectancy, shouldn't it have the highest? You'd think technology should be improving to makes things last.

Now it almost seems like engineers build things to not last so you either have to pay money to get it fixed or buy a new vehicle.

They will sell the shorter lifespan as a result of stricter emissions regulations.

It’s going to look like this. This was the “concept” of an EV version they showed during a press conference. We won’t see an EV Tacoma for 24MY so don’t get bent out of shape but from several people I trust this is a pretty close resemblance of the 4th gen Tacoma.

I dont think it will look like that, to me that thing is nothing more than a 3rd gen with some fiberglass panels thrown on just to wheel out to say they have an EV Truck in the works.

Yeah you could be right. The move away from ICE would be better served with shorter lifespan engines I guess. Lol... I'm sure there will come a day when I'm still driving my 3rd gen gasser I'l be getting scowls of displeasure when out driving in traffic consisting of mainly Electrics and Hybrids.

Looks aside, the question I will have is what will the payload and towing numbers be, will it finally get close to the Ranger or exceed (okay, we know toyota doesn't do that) they should be able to at least keep up.

What would stricter emissions have to do with shorter lifespan? It's not a turbo thing...since the 22r-te has an engine lifespan of 420000km. The T24A-FTS has a lifespan of 250000km.

Were did those numbers come from. Modern engines run hotter.

I looked at that site and I wouldn't put much faith in those numbers.

Not my style. Plus it's true, it helps all if they run generations for a long time. I think it's too soon to switch up. Maybe offer a hybrid? Hate to say it but .... But they are better at making money than I am!

I don't, it was just interesting to see. Obviously results will vary depending on how the vehicle was used and maintained. It is an apples to apples comparison though seeing how it's all from the same source/website.

How did they even determine those longevities though? It seems pretty arbitrary to me.

It also says the 5VZ "suffers from frequent overheating," which isn't true. Toyota went to great lengths to fix the overheating issues in the previous 3.0 V6, and those problems are rare in the 3.4.

Well, if you look up the 3vz-e (3.0 v6) they mention that the 3.0 can get cracks in the head due to overheating.
