I recently purchased a Hiline bumper for my tacoma.. based on BAs website the bumper is made of 3/16" material wich is absolutely false. Anybody who has one please verify and post. Check the edges around winch cutout, BA logo, facet edges. You will measure <1/8". You can even see it in close up photos here on tacoma world.. they are wrong.
I have contacted BA and they are upholding the lie that it is infact 3/16" .
I'm not asking for compensation I'm asking for them to own the mistake and correct their literature.

Folks will probably be interested in your measurements.

So you’ve measured your bumper with calipers and it’s less than an 1/8” thick in all of those places?

Out of curiosity, how thick is the mounting bracket and winch baseplate?

Body armor has seen these images as well and still deny it.
The winch plate is accurate at 1/4"
My caliper batteries are dead but it is clear to see on a tape that it is inside the 1/8" marks.

How thick is this piece? Not that it matters but most of your pics are just gussets/braces. I’m curious how thick the main piece is.

Those were the recessed piece and the bumper skin edges.. literally every piece of the bumper besides the winch plate.

And the piece you are pointing to is just that little fin on the side, and yes, same <1/8"

You are correct with your measurements, as I got the same. Honestly it could be made out of 1/2" plate and it would fail miserably at the dogshit looking welds. This honestly meets my expectations given its $500 and made in china. Oh, and mines not square to the frame as well.
I will probably make my own using this as a template when it rusts out which it has already started.

I agree the cut/fold edges are gonna split if you hit anything. The bull bar is bull shit (probably thinner yet by the sound).
I would have bought it anyway if they stated it was what it is. I just CANNOT STAND companies not doing their due diligence when presented an issue with their product. Particularly when there are other unknowing distributors selling those lies also.

If you have a minute reach out to BodyArmor and question it as well. Give this some traction.

Alright, I was curious, so I went out and measured mine at multiple points.

Keep in mind that I don't have the BA brand, but instead the cheap Chinese bumper that was made in the same factory as the BA. They claim the same 3/16 plate material.

    For simple conversion:
    1/16=0.0625
    1/8=0.125
    3/16=0.1875
    1/4=0.25 :cookiemonster:

Face plate, measured at several points on both cutout and edges:

    PXL_20221129_172918551.jpg

    Range: 0.136 - 0.140, median 0.1385

    = 1/8 to 9/64. Basically 1/8 when they advertised 3/16.

For winch base and bracket (advertised spec is 1/4"):

    PXL_20221129_172933320.jpg

Range: 0.245 -0.325. Toss high number as an outlier (erroneous measurement). Median: 0.25.

True 1/4" plate where it counts.

I'll accept that, even if the face is 1/8".

And it could be the case that they used to make it true 3/16" and never changed the description. OR maybe they are sourcing from all over and get a mix depending on the batch. There could he a lot of explanations, they just won't look into it at this point.

Of course not. They are either a shell company or they outsource all of their fab and dont care. That's the risk we run for buying cheap.

Agreed. I thought I was doing them a favor by bringing it to their attention.. they must not give a hoot as long as they are getting paid.

By 'they' I mean wherever they are sourcing from.. I know how this stuff works, it is literally what I do for a living at a millwork company.

    Very few companies care anymore.

OP…. You didn’t get taken. We all have the same build characteristics of the BA bumper. I purchased mine from Extreme Terrain and found the same misrepresented measurements. I registered my displeasure with them; they offered to swap it out but I said eff it because I was already too deep with applying cosmolene within the interior and installing the winch.

The important core structures of the bumper are robust. Everything else on it is better than OEM plastic.

Robust hardly. Sufficient maybe. Less than what they claimed ABSOLUTELY.

As I said before I would have bought it anyway if it was stated to be the thinner, but now they have lied to me in the face of evidence.

... Also looking for validation that I'm not insane ...

The winch plate is robust. The mounting plate to the frame horns is robust, as well as the tow eyes on the front. These are the critical areas of that bumper.

I do hope you have drilled out your OEM frame horn bolts and installed longer ones. The OEM bolts do not allow enough thread capture for a secure fitting.
