5100 Way Too Stiff

Hi guys, so I installed 4 Bilstein 5100s on my 2010 DC, no Tsb in the rear. They are set at 1.75" in front. The only thing I have noticed is that the front is WAY stiffer than it felt stock. Bumps I would roll over with the stock shocks at 8 mph I now buck over with the Bilstein. Am I doing something wrong? Am I being a wussy about this? If I cant fix this problem I am getting the old shocks put back on asap. Thank you for your insight.

If they're too stiff, set them down to .85 or 0. You've compressed your spring by setting them at 1.75 so they're going to ride stiffer. Another option would be to get a different coil and set them down to 0 so you still get the lift.

 

lets see some pics to make sure the spring seat is not upside down. also you could go to 0.85" and it should ride fine

 

they seem stiff slower, drive faster and they are smoother...

we put them on ninorths truck and the difference from stock on his dirt road was awesome. hit the 8mph bump at 20, itll be smoother than stock.

Are they the progressive or linear coils? TRD has one kind and SR5 has the other. The progressive coils at 1.75 will be stiffer than linear set at same height. Whichizit?

TRD Off Road has progressive coils, TRD Sport and SR5 have the same linear coils.

I thought the spring seat went the other way where it sat down over the clip to keep it in place instead of up on top. Also keeps the spring centered where it doesn't move. Couldn't find clear pic of mine........

 

Those are upside down, compressing the spring too much. How much lift did you get? I would guess 3" or more.....

look at the poor ball joint.

please dont drive it anymore before you fix it.... how did you get the spring compressor in/out, the coils are so close to each other...

 

Take those off ASAP. With the spring perch upside down, the body of the perch does not compress the c-clip to hold it in place. The clip could slip off at any minute and rocket the perch down onto your LCA, and drop the fenders onto the tire.....Iw oudln't drive anywhere with it like that.

 

100% upside down. Ask me how I know. I did the same thing when I put mine on. Picked up the spring perch, slapped it on and never thought twice. But don't feel too bad. We aren't the only dummies on here. I have seen people that took theirs to professional shops to have them put on and they did the same thing.
