This was taken at the PPF, where X processes their payloads. They are limited to 3 payloads at a time right now. Apparently Elon has plans for a new facility in his hands, we'll see if he moves forward with it.

I was setting up a job at the MPPF earlier where Orion is processed. The parachutes in Orion were packed in 2014. Hope there isnt any degradation.

Does degradation include staying tightly packed in a block when released?

Another SF today. We'll see if the new Fondag concrete held up as well as the new shielding. The exhaust cloud was still pretty brown but the SH held up.
There shouldn’t be any uv damage. :anonymous:

Did you watch the NSF commentary stream? I'm still trying to figure out your YouTube handle.

Yes, briefly. Just long enough to read the ticker that the SF had happened and start looking for short replays. I don’t have a handle.
That aside I really am anxious to see how the new concrete held up. Marcus House suggested the possibility of a mobile diverter to redirect the thrust but that would need to be a serious piece of hardware. I’m not convinced that anything can substitute for the distance afforded by a launch mount over a flame tunnel/trench for thrust of this magnitude.

I guess it wouldn't be your handle, but your username.

It will have a bunch of thrust, sure. But nothing near as destructive as the SRBs on SLS.

Why? It’s 17 million pounds of thrust vs 1/2 as much regardless of whether it comes from Raptors or SRB’s and RS-25’s. And that 1/2 as much didn’t leave the pad unscathed. If there’s a difference it’s in the heat of the SRB’s which burn much hotter but since both are capable of blasting pieces loose it’s a bit moot. They’ll have more than a year before the next Artemis launch but Elon wants a launch cadence for Starship measured in hours. Trashing the pad may be expected by NASA if they even care but it’s a no go for the OLM.
No username either. It’s more laziness than anything else.

The thrust is higher, yes. But Methalox doesn't have the aluminum oxide solids like the SRB, nor the massive shockwave at startup.

That hunk of non-operating junk got an AWARD?!
