    Oh look, another mod....
Check the stick on the left side of your steering wheel, if you have them, you'll see "Auto". That means the lights come on/off based on how dark it is.

Most likely you don't have this. Base model SR's don't have shit as far as features.

The 2009 Prerunner I had didn't have automatic lights. But I set the switch to "On" and left it on all the time. The lights would go off about a minute or so after turning off the ignition.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
Wouldn't take much effort to find out - leave the light switch on, shut your truck down, check it after about 15 minutes to see if they went out.

My truck doesn't even have an off switch on the stalk. I think Toyota finally is trying to prevent people from driving around at night with no tail lights on.

Wrong. The "Auto" on the steering column is so the lights come on when you start the truck. There is a button in the bottom left hand corner, next to the steering wheel. if you press THAT button, then you get the auto-highbeams.

The stalk "Auto" is between DRL mode (whichever you have) and low beam + rear marker lights based on ambient sunlight. The threshold for transition can be adjusted in the infotainment. There is also a user adjustable delay of turning them off after ignition off.

The switch panel push button "Auto" is high beam dimming based on the headlights of on coming cars. Transition is non-adjustable.
