Yeah if you read the last paragraph...the part apparently is so new that there isn't a TSB out for it yet is what the tech told me. He had to call corporate to be able to install it because he wasn't sure if it needed the bracket that the older models of the blower had to have (4040 and 4041). I can post a picture of my work order if you want me too.

So, I have been on the waiting list for about 2 months now. I just called the dealer to see where I stood and magically the part had "just" come in. I apparently have really good luck.

Anyway, my truck goes in on Friday and before hanging up I asked the service writer for the part number and she read off 87103 042 which is slightly different than what is posted above, but I had her read it of twice. I will be sure to check back in with the results.

    Thank you guys.
I'm going to have to call corporation and see if they can help me, Longo Toyota, Toyota Pasadena and Wondries are just wasting my time.
Can't loose any more work days so I can leave the truck at the dealer all day for them to remove leaves (according to them) and probably spray some WD40, because the noise is gone for 2 days after I leave the stealer.

    Thanks for the help ;)

just a quick note about my replacement from Amazon:
TYC 700188 Toyota Tacoma Replacement Blower Assembly
No squeak! But the fan is a bit unbalanced and makes a bit of whirly noise at high speed, Not nearly as much as the old unit though. The blade assembly is held on by a retention clip so I can probably get it apart without breaking it next time :)
I think it was worth it for $40.

Can anyone else confirm that the new fan #04042 is also defective?

I am bringing my 2011 in for the first oil change and asked them to change the fan blower assembly because mine squeaks and chirps too. I was going to request the new part number. :(

I found this old TSB for the foam bandaid fix.... what a joke! 17 page TSB to add foam.

Could not handle the squeek anymore (even after repair) so I went for a TYC from ebay. Took 2 days (!!!!) to get here in canada with standard shipping just look for directauto. The fan is not perfectly balanced but still way better than the old one.

I'm new on here, and just found this thread, but did something similar to the OP's procedure on mine last month - BUT, I also found that there was an excessive amount of end play in the motor, and that the shaft was "chattering" vertically when the fan was running. With the bottom plastic cover removed from the motor, I could push the end of the shaft upward and eliminate the noise.

I disassembled the motor, cleaned it out with compressed air, gently chucked the shaft in a drill (redneck lathe :D) and cleaned up the commutator bars with 600 and 1500 grit emery paper. Then, I added a thin brass washer to the bottom end, to take up the excessive end play. I had to remove two of the very thin fibre shim washers (there were 4) to get it right, as the new washer was thicker than needed. A little trial and error was needed for this part, but basically remove as much of the end play as possible without causing any added drag on the shaft. I applied a bit of synthetic grease to the bushings and the shaft, and it's been quiet as a mouse for over a month. The brass washer needs to be 5/16 or 8mm ID, and as thin as possible.

If it comes back, I'm going to look into installing a Denso motor from a pre-02 corolla - I had the fan out of my wife's car to clean out the leaves, and while it is different, it just might be similar enough to make work. 10 years and 226000 Km's and that motor is still good. Denso vs Delphi - not even close.:(

Just a note for those newbie's to Toyota Tacoma.

I had a 2001 Tacoma with 90,000 on the odometer. In those 9+ year, it only had to replace the battery twice. that's probably due to pulling and drawing power from a camper trailer. My truck had a tow package installed later, and as such, really wasn't meant for the job. But it NEVER let me sit due to mechanical problems.

I liked it so much I bought another Tacoma. Although I too am aggrivated by the nuescent chirping, I am reminded that most American vehicles experience more problems than our Toyota Tacoma.

I have been working with Toyota Customer Service directly and they say the newly designed part is slated for distribution mid March. I'm not sure if it's the 4042 or something different. I'll see what I can find out.

Inspite of the chirp. I doubt you'll be disappointed by the relaibility, as well as the abilities of your Tacoma.

Finally getting my new Blower Motor today. Took 5 weeks to get it here. They told me it was the newly designed part...hopefully the 4042 part number. Will let you know what they say about all these problems across the U.S. with this motor issue.

Did you bring it back in yet? I'm curious to hear what they say about this as it's the "new" redesigned motor. I'm going in today for the same motor. Now I'm worried!

For those who replaced the fan 3 times or more

    When, enough it's enough:
    Lemon law:
The same problem has been subject to repair four or more times by the manufacturer or its agents and the buyer has at least once directly notified the manufacturer of the need for the repair of the problem as provided in the warranty or owner's manual.

It is a good idea to send your written notice to the manufacturer at the address shown in the warranty or owner's manual by certified mail, return receipt requested so that you have proof that your letter was received. Keep a copy of all correspondence.

And for all the haters. Me in my case, I sold my old truck, because I can't loose a day of work,( no work no money). I already left the truck 3 times all day at the dealer and last time they didn't do anything. The window seals were not replaced, they are still open and the piece of window molding that was hanging down from the back window was still hanging down. I'm not saying that Toyota it's doing this, But Toyota know that there is a problem and they are trying to get away with, they took a gamble, the fan problem it's not new, they new about the leaf springs in 2009 and they kept building trucks with the 3 leaf springs, out of the thousand trucks that they build, I don't think every single one will load it and have problems but for those who trusted Toyota and got a truck for work, has to go to the dealer, an stupid amount of times to have the problems fixed.
A recall it's not the solution, but don't give me shit if I have a problem and there is a TSB for it.

sorry, but I have all day to do nothing, since my truck is parked in the dealers lot to fix the moldings , the fan and the rear view mirror. The good thing is after they are done they wash your truck !!!!ohhh I love those automated car washes, those plastic rolls really apply spiderwebs to the paint..Even when you tell them DON'T wash the truck, they do it anyway. They want the customer to be happy 8(

My stealer has been no help with this. 8 weeks i've been waiting now. Called the "toyota customer experience" too. what a bunch of shit. they said it is backordered and that they'd call me in another 2 weeks to give me an ETA on the part.

so the dealer wont help. Corporate wont help. I shouldnt alter the truck at all as toyota corp said that i'd void my warranty on much of the electrical system by putting in a non factory part or by disassembling the part and greasing it.

so now i'm driving my 12 year old truck that has no issues while my 2010 sits in the driveway because the blower motor squeek is louder than the radio.

this WILL be my last toyota after owning 6. i guess an ecoboost ford is in my future. I most likely will trade in the taco right after they replace the blower.

i used to like toyota, but after this truck, they've lost a customer for life.

I'm really sorry to hear that. I know your pain because I had an H3 that had a clear defect with the Intermediate steering shaft. I had it replaced 3 times and it still did the exact same thing every time, and this was with the redesign part. I had steering wheel shake/shifting and foot pedal vibration and tapping constantly. I finally said screw it and sold it even with all the money I dumped into it.

I have had some issues with that blower motor on my taco. I complained a long time ago about it before a TSB was even out. I finally took it in today to the Dealer and they argued that they weren't going to do anything about it. I got that overturned and am in the cue for a new one now. I just live with alot of the rattles and pops because I'm tired of buying a new car every couple years.
