Hey all. Had some snow here in WA today and I had my truck in 4wd, but when I went to put it back in 2wd it has the 4wd light flashing and VSC still off. Tried going all the way to 4lo and then back to 4h, etc. but it didn’t help. Any ideas on why this may be?

Have you tried backing up a few feet to unload the driveline?

I have not, I’ll give that a try once I’m done here at the gym.

When you switch to 2wd and the light is flashing can you tell if the truck is still in 4wd other than the flashing light?

When driven in 4X4 for long periods, especially where traction is good the gears in the transfer case get bound up and don't want to release. Driving in reverse for 10-15' then pulling forward will usually relieve the binding. You may have to repeat this little dance several times. Don't do it just once. I've had to do so 4-5 times in the past in order to get it out. But this is usually more of an issue getting out of low range.

At some point the pressure was relieved and it allowed you to make the shift.

Just because you had snow on the ground doesn't mean you are driving in 4X4 all the time. Use 4X4 as needed to get you started on hills etc., then switch back to 4X2. If you can drive in 4X2, then do so. 90% of the other vehicles on the road are doing just fine and they don't have the 4X4 option. This will prevent problems in the future.
