    My wife is (or at least was when she was still in the ER) very good at starting IVs but every once in a while she had trouble hitting the vein. That's when they'd call Charlie. Dude was amazing.

    Never been in a helicopter. It’s something that I have considered doing.

    Hitting a vein and not blowing through it under NODS will make you a pro in no time.

    My veins go deep and will roll. So many nurses poke a few holes and give up.

    They need to drag a nurse from intensive care many times.

    Normal Blood work it takes 15 to 20 attempts .

    Hating needles does not help

    ANY job in emergency services/law enforcement/first responders/military/emergency rooms etc can wear on your soul.

    We see and do and feel things most people will never understand and they're all a bit different of course but it's the same too.

    Helping people is the name of the game but the cost is often ourselves.

    3 times flying in a helicopter:
    #1-hoisted out of Pensacola Bay as part of AOCS training. The evolution started by being dragged across the bay at low speed by a landing craft in a parachute harness, releasing yourself from the harness, inflating your LPA and wait for the helo to arrive, hover and lower the rescue cable. After you hooked yourself up to the cable they hoisted you 20’ up to the helo, after a quick thumbs up you were lowered back int the bay to await the recovery boat. The total “flight time” was less than a minute but technically I was attached to a flying helicopter (I believe it was a Sea King) so that sorta counts, albeit I was actually outside of the helicopter.
    #2- fam flight in a Schweizer 300 where they actually let you take the controls for a short bit of time
    #3 - another fam flight, this time in Bell-47

    Good times!

    I had thought about being a cosmetic surgeon a few months back but they don't make as much as you might think. And the garbage business isnt going anywhere either.

    I was in the er a few years ago with a bad bout of diverticulitis. Wasn’t fun. Had to have 2 IVs going, and I accidentally pulled one out while trying to move in bed. I told the nurse who was just out of school I messed up and pulled it out, it really was an accident. It took 6 tries to get a new IV in, they kept saying how the veins rolled etc. the dude they brought up from the ER was an army medic in a previous life, he said, “that vein is a PIPE I could stab a pencil in there!” I don’t think he helped the nurses feel better! :rofl::rofl:

    That’s what a person says when they miss a lot, always ask for a medic in the er or a er nurse that was a medic to start your ivs. Pac u nurses in the or are also good. Had to start my wife’s when she was sick, one and done. :bananadance: .

    By no means am I intending to diminish or otherwise minimalize the work of the people listed above, can I add to the list people who work:
    • To provide services to:
      • Child Abusers;
      • Adult Abusers;
      • Delinquents;
      • Criminal Offenders;
      • Survivors of any sort of trauma;
      • Institutionally placed individuals with severe intellectual challenges; and
    • In
      • Group Homes for whatever reason
      • Architecturally secure faculties (adult and juvenile)
      • Any sort of field services that don't get recognized like teachers do for their sacrifices which benefit children and their families such as Child Protective Services Workers, Juvenile Probation Officers, Mental Health Workers, OTs, PTs, Speech Therapists;
      • Educational settings as paraprofessionals who support teachers/schools in the work they do; and
    Anyone else in the spirit of the above?

    Thanks to all working to make this a better place :hattip:. Good night.

    POLL: More times than I can count. I worked in the offshore industry flying to and from just about every facility off the continental US. Bell and Sikorsky mostly. I have been in plenty others at air shows over the years - Chinooks and all sorts of variants from SkyCranes to Apache. I have sat in every seat except the right front. You haven’t lived until you experience putting a wheeled medic down on a pad not much bigger on a moving vessel in random high seas. A chip light experience on a remote unmanned structure is another of those puckering moments. However, the views are some of the most unforgettable experiences I wouldn’t trade away.
